        Dark and funny

Found this book as a fluke and I've loved the series ever since, yes some of the themes can be quite dark but the characters are fantastic and really got involved with them, they also lighten the tone a little from really dark bits. Doesn't always paint a great picture of Scottish people but I enjoy reading it and laughing at parts which are actually how people are in real life

        Not quite what I thought

I'm not sure this was exactly what I thought it was going to be. I expected a lot more humour when seeing the cast but I felt it was quite serious with a deep underlying story. The stories were quite good, I particularly liked he Portland Hotel episode. I felt towards the end it got quite silly and the solution seemed very clipped.

Space Force might not be the giant leap for comedy you were hoping for but it takes small steps in the right direction.

Arriving with undue and almost indecent haste, Netflix’s new satire sets its sites on one of the more ludicrous examples of Presidential hubris only to find that in its haste to launch early, its trajectory is slightly miscalculated and most of the humour fails to land on the designated target....

Ryan Reynolds was made for this role!

Ryan Reynolds was born to play this character, his sense and style of humour fits this film. You can see why he fought so hard for this to be made, and I am absolutely sure that nobody else could really do the character justice. After the poor attempt at bringing Deadpool to the big screen seen in Wolverine: Origins, this is refreshing and far truer to its source material. The constant breaking of the forth wall (for which Deadpool is so famous) serves to keep the audience intimately involved and literally invites them along for the ridiculous ride. The action is impressively done, and that there is a real sense that the film embodies Deadpool's lunacy. I am struggling to pinpoint any issues, as it was just too much fun. This film was exactly what it should have been and I couldn't have asked for anything more...

Martin McDonagh has delivered an amazing screenplay, with amazing direction. It is dark humour, which is not for everyone, but the dramatic storyline should still please movie lovers.
Frances McDormand is amazing as the mother of a girl who was raped and murdered. The story is poignant, very in your face and heart wrenching at times.
With supporting performances from Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell who are also amazing, it's no surprise it won Best Drama Motion Picture at the Golden Globes.
*Spoilers ahead*
The only disappointing thing is that we spend the whole movie hoping with all the characters that we will find the killer, and at one point we think we have found him. But I heard the audience collectively groan in disappointment when it wasn't him. And it was a disappointing ending to not get closure on the case.
But having said that, it is a style that McDonagh often goes with.

In lots of ways Mort is the first book which feels like a 'proper' Discworld novel, fusing the fantasy setting, humour and allegorical commentary together into a delightful, coherent whole.
The story itself is a good one: Death takes on Mort as an apprentice so he can take a break. When Mort breaks the rules he causes a wound in space/time that needs to be healed. And the more Mort does the job of Death the more the job begins to take its toll on him.
There is so much to like about this book. The humour is spot-on with some great one-liners, characters and footnotes. The exploration of the mechanics of how Death really operates on the Discworld fits perfectly with the logic of how the rather unique world operates and is the first glimpse into just how complex and rich the series of books could be.
The Discworld was still evolving rapidly at this point and Mort represents a real statement of intent for the future.

All episodes are told alongside great humour and whilst going off track slightly sometimes it is always kept interesting. I want to state the bad points are not my view in particular and just feedback I have heard from other fans that I think are relevant.
