The rare occasion that Gaiman totally missed the mark for me. Basically one long run on joke about all the tropes found in every Gothic tale ever told, this is the weakest of Dark Horse's Gaiman adaptations. I haven't read the original story this was adapted from, so I'm not sure if this is worse/better or if it's Gaiman's story or Oakley's adaptation, but I quickly found myself skimming thru just to get to the end, and when you're reading something only 48 pages long and you start skimming when you're only half way thru...

Meh
Found this one on Netflix. It's very mediocre. The acting was weak and the effects were too. The story wasn't a bad premise but it was told poorly. The action sequences were not very good or realistic. I found myself saying many times over "yeah, right" and I'm not usually one that expects realism from movies. Problem is, if you're trying to make it realistic, then you have to stick to it throughout. It was basically a "bank heist good really bad" movie, not some fantasy style story. I would say that overall this one is NOT worth a watch.

An Interesting Maritime Adventure
This book was recommended to me by a friend who has read all of the books in the series and this, is the first. I thought because I had watched the film version of this novel, that I knew what the story was going to be about, but the book is very different from the adaptation.
At first, I found this extremely difficult to get into. After about 100 pages I actually put this book down, because I found the maritime vocabulary, impossible to follow. However, I decided to pick it back up again and actually, when the character Stephen Maturin, the ship's doctor, comes into the story, I found that, because he was a novice with ships, he was asking questions about the different mechanisms etc of the ship and that helped me to feel that I had some idea of what it was all about.
I also found some of the battle scene a little bit static and difficult to visualize.
Even though this was a challenging book, I really like the relationship between Stephen and Jack Aubrey, the ship's captain. The writing was very humorous at times and I also liked how some of this book featured places in the Mediterranean that I'm really familiar with.
Being the first in the series, I'm sure as the novels progress, I might find this easier to get into. I won't be rushing out to read any more at the moment, I think you need to be in the right mood to read them. However, I may read more of this series in the future.

I was hooked from the get-go. This is part of the Chasing Secrets series but, as far as I can tell, you don't have to read both. I think they are stand-alone.
Harper has been on the run for a long time, hiding her identity to stay safe from the drug cartel she was kidnapped by when she was younger. I don't want to say too much as I feel it would take away from the suspense that the story gives. It is so cleverly written, I found myself being pulled so far in that I was getting anxious that things wouldn't be fixed.
It is a recommendation by me. A fantastic mystery that keeps you on your toes.

Not sure how this became a classic.
My school never required me to read this so I just never got around to it until a few years ago and I have to say I was not a fan. I found the entire book boring the characters terrible or writing wasn't really that great either, for the life of me I really cannot figure out how this book has made it into being a classic and it's still extremely popular. The whole idea of the book is really good but just the execution I found terrible I hated every single freaking character not even over exaggerating there.
I think if I would have been required to read this at a younger age like most people I may have liked it a lot more but reading it as an adult for the first time I feel really just spoil the whole thing for me plus you have to kind of be living under a rock and not to know what the books about and what happens in it.

I loved this book. I knew I would as soon as I read the synopsis. I have a big to-be-read stack and this book didn’t sit well at the bottom so jumped to the top very quickly – even more so as the publication date was fast approaching.
I found it to be a gripping tale that had me repeatedly saying “one more chapter” and ended with another day of no housework and little sleep!
The author has given us two powerful lead characters and I felt a bond with both. I found myself rooting for them to find their way to happiness. It is a love story with a suspenseful mystery throughout.

Done Wonders For My Mental Health!
I have been a fan of Pokémon since I was a child in the 90s. When this game was announced I knew I would have to spend time with it. I am a very anxious person, I barely go out without a friend or my partner but I’ve found myself venturing down the road to collect stops in this game. I’ve joined groups and met up with people to take part in raids, I’ve had fun with the tasks.
The game has micro transactions in it but you don’t need to buy them unless you want to. You can acquire in game items through the Pokestops, research tasks, levelling up & gifts.
It is regularly updated so there’s always something to do. If you were looking for a fun way to get out of the use and socialise/exercise, this is it.
