"I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being, with an independent will; which I now exert to leave you.’ This is an important book that as a young girl showed me that we can be indomitable, regardless of whether we are seen or not."

"Rushdie combines historical reality and mythical fiction to deliver a magnificent and magical account of India’s transition to independence and partition. It tells the story of a young man born along with hundreds of others at the very moment India becomes independent and through these new lives come hopes, dreams, curses and complication."

I really enjoyed this book!! I liked how each chapter was a different person's story and I loved how we found out how they were all connected to each other. This was a true multi-generational novel. It was very well-written and each chapter told its own independent story. Would definitely recommend to others!!

"I gotta give it to The Sound of Music. I'm sorry. I know that's, like, a lame answer, but I f***in' love The Sound of Music. It's The Sound of Music ... It's not like it's some obscure independent film. There are those who would be expecting me to say Caddyshack—which is number two."

"I was an undergraduate art student when this film came out, and it was the reason I decided to apply to graduate film school. I find it hard to imagine the independent film movement without Stranger Than Paradise. It is entirely personal and impossible to copy —the kind of movie I hope for all the time."

"There’s a movie called James Dean. It’s about James Dean’s life, and James Franco played James Dean. I love that movie. I just thought James Franco was so good in that. He was so interesting, and it’s just a really cool independent film. I really like that movie. It was weird; he just looked and sounded and acted so much like James Dean, it was ridiculous."

"It’s a small independent movie; it was directed by the people who wrote a movie that we did called Lowriders, which we’re actually releasing next May. This is the movie they did before Lowriders, and it’s a very small indie story, but I just thought it was incredibly well done. I think they spent $100,000 on the movie, and I just really loved it."

"I cannot stop watching this film. I’ve tried. Yet Wes Anderson has created a fairy-tale world that is so timeless and awkwardly comfortable. Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman portray one of the most endearing duos in years, with an ensemble of memorable characters surrounding them. Full of hilarious dialogue, a pristine song score, and Anderson’s imaginative eye—this will restore anyone’s faith in American independent filmmaking."
