loved the water cuddles, and the whole tentacle thing!

I read a lot, like a LOT of shifter books, and the more obscure the better. So a Kraken was always gonna hit the spot for me! Add in a bear who doesn't like water, a family of brothers who proper take the mickie out of each other, and a whole big mystery of missing shifters, this was a sure-fire hit.
BAR one thing.
Questions! I'm left with a whole gaggle of questions!
And I can voice a couple of them, which for a Sayle book and me? Makes a change!
How old is Alexi? Or indeed Danik? It's clear they are old, comments made attest to that, but it wasn't revealed just HOW old they are.
And just what is it that Todd smirked about, that Alexi should have talked to Danik about, huh?
There are a couple more lurking at the back of my book mind, but I can't dig them out just yet!
BUT!!
Questions aside, I loved this. It's different, so works for me. I loved the easy acceptance of Danik and Alexi's bond with each other, and Alexi's brothers taking Danik in. Loved the water cuddles, and the tentacle thing! It is heavy on the smexy times, but I think they actually fit in well with the overall story line, rather than being chucked in for the sake of it! Loved Alexi's brothers teasing!
I enjoyed the missing shifter plot, and the way it leads into the next book, with Alexi's brother Victor. And there is clearly something going on between another brother and the guys that turned up to help find the other shifters!
Can't wait to read them!
Also, gonna check out Oliver's work, not sure I've read any!

cute and sweet but maybe not for me.

I love JP Sayle, you know I do. I've watched the skill this author has grow from the very beginning, and I'm incredibly proud of the work this author continues to produce.
But!
This one I found a little too sweet for me, and I hate that I did.
It's well told, from both Gaines and Austin's point of view. It's the first I've of a koala as a chosen pet for play, and at times, I did find the koala stuff too much. There were koalas in everything, EVERYTHING Gaines did, and it was a bit overpowering.
I loved that both men had an immediate and powerful reaction to the other, and both men, once they started to get to know each other, were fully able to adapt and bend to the others' needs, without sacrificing their own. I liked that Austin gave Gaines time to work things out in his head, before he came to Austin, even if it killed Austin to wait.
I loved that we got to catch up with Terrence and Warner from A Little Christmas, Terrence. It's always great catching up with characters fromprevious reads, even in those that can stand alone from others.
I really liked that, while some things *little* were mentioned in passing, and others were talked about, Gaines doesn't slip far into little-space. He's more a pet-space kinda guy and I did like that. LOVED the descriptions of Gaines climbing Austin like a pole! LOVED them!!
It's steamy and smexy, not overly emotional and there is no real drama, save for Gaines getting his head straight to talk to Austin.
It just didn't really work for me, and I hate that it didn't! I'm sorry, Jayne!

absolutely LOVED the slow burn/fade to back/very little smexy times!

Historical romance has always been a bit hit and miss for me, I tend to get annoyed with all the rules and regs of the time, but, strangely, that's what I liked about this one!
Because Rosie (to only Rhys and NO ONE else!) kind of flaunts the rules. She pushes the boundaries and smashes down the expectations for ladies of her time.
Given her secret, and how she dealt with that in the past, it's understandable she doesn't want anyone to push her into anything, certainly not a marriage to Penworth, the odious man. Rose's male parental unit (I refuse to call him her father!) is a nasty piece of work, but he does get his comeuppence!
I loved that Rose and Rhys have history, from when they were children. I loved that we get some of that history in flashbacks. It helps you paint the picture of how Rose and Rhys came to be.
And I absolutely LOVED the slow burn/fade to back/very little smexy times that this book has. Hardly surprising given Rose's past, but I loved that Rhys loved Rosie enough to WAIT for her, to come to him, when she wanted more from him.
Quite a lot of angst in this book, for Rose as well as Rhys. I liked that Rhys was able to articulate his feelings for Rose, since men of that time were not expected to be able to do that.
Given the bit at the end, I expect that one of Rose's sister's will be next and I look forward to reading it,

loing these fun reads

This is book 4 in the Bucket List Buddies, and it can be read as a stand alone, but the other books are really good.
Rick is an alpha bear shifter, but he doesn't want an omega mate, nor a beta. He wants another alpha as a mate, which makes him a bit of an odd one in this world. Ian is a honey bear shifter, also doesn't want an omega mate, he needs another alpha. Attending the latest Bucket List Buddies event gives them both what they want. But can they get over Rick's past?
What I love about this book, all of them, is how easy they are to read, and you can just fall into two bears falling in love and dealing with what's thrown at them. Fun reads, that hit that spot that needs hitting after a darker read.
There is a little angst between Ian and Rick, especially when Ian's insecurities show their face, after Rick takes a trip down memory lane, but nothing that actually talking about things won't fix. Ian's family is a bit pushy, trying to foist an omega on him, a female at that, even after he had stated many many times, he didn't want a female at all!
Steamy and smexy.
The previous guys all pop up, as they are a close knit group of friends. So, catching up with everyone is great fun.
BUT!
For the love of all that is holy, please let me know that Remi and Sven will get a full book?? I hated that we didn't get their meeting in this book! I'm waiting, so very impatiently, for their time and if they don't get it, I will not be happy. Not at all!

This is book 4 in the Basic Instincts series, and it can be read as a stand alone. I do however, personally recommend that you do read them in order. It will give you a better picture of Blyham and what has happened and what is still happening there.
Jude has returned home, after years on the cruise ships. Danyal is an old school friend and the attraction between them still lingers. Then Jude witnesses a murder, Danyal's police colleague is murder and the killer is playing games.
What I loved about this book, was, although the Blyham Strangler was mentioned, the recent spate of attacks on the gay community are someone else. Someone who we get to hear from and I love LOVE hearing from the bad guys! But they have no connection to the strangler. They are twisted and deadly, especially after what happens to Danyal's colleague.
The book is dark and deadly with on page violence that is absolutely needed. It's emotional and heart wrenching. Both Danyal and Jude suffer losses here in the most horrific way and you feel for them. It brings them closer, though and I loved that neither felt the need to push the other away.
I didn't think it was as steamy as the other books. This one concentrates more on the emotional connection, I find, than the smex. There is smex, sure but it's a second to the crime and the bad guy and what happens there.
The bad guy gets his comeuppence, in the most ironic way, considering what happens earlier in the book.
Will there be more? I'm not sure Blyham can handle another bad guy, to be honest! But if there is, I'll read it!

This is a spin off of the Love In Mission City series, but it's not necessary to read those books before this one. I've only read 3, I think.
Caressa returns home after 5 years away. Her 2 best friends are keen for her to stay. Michael and Cole have loved Caressa and each other for a long time, but it takes Caressa leaving for either of them to realise how much. Can they move from friends to lovers, or will it all end in tears?
I liked this, a lot. I enjoyed the books I read of the Mission City series too.
My only complaint, I suppose is the right word to use, is that Caressa jumps into Michael's bed so bloody fast after coming home! I would have liked a more emotional connection . . .but then again, these guys have been friends for so long, that connection has already been established . . . but it felt, to me, a little quick.
I did like that they were conscious of Cole and how he might react, and I was pleasantly surprised by his reaction. But then again! He has lusted over them both for a long time, and now his dreams are coming closer together. I liked that Cole had a secret from his long term friends, and I look forward to that being fully explored!
All three get a say, 1st person, past tense.
