"I spent the summer of 2002 in Los Angeles, interning for my uncle’s company. I rented a one-bedroom apartment with no furniture. Other than my inflatable mattress in the corner (which sprang a leak right away), it was just a big empty space. I had a suitcase, a guitar, and a laptop with me. I had no television and a superslow Internet connection, so watching DVDs on my laptop was my only source of entertainment. I happened to rent both of these films that summer, and they are still two of my favorites. The sloppiness and raw energy of The Harder They Come was so inspiring. Two-Lane Blacktop also had a great energy about it, but in a more deliberate, quiet way. Both films were convincing arguments for casting musicians as leads, regardless of their acting experience, which I have done several times and plan to continue doing. Most importantly, the films couldn’t be shaken. They crept into me and wouldn’t go away. My initial reaction to something is far less important to me than my feeling about it a month or a year later. These two are still with me."

Interesting adaptation of the notorious experiment

Along with the Milgram Experiment (1961) the Stanford Prison Experiment (1971) has been widely discussed. Both attempted to investigate the psychological effects of perceived power and its effect on the human psyche. The SPE focused on the struggle between prisoners and prison officers. The randomly chosen participants were university students who agreed to take part in the two week experiment (in a prison recreated under the university itself). Of course things take a turn for the worst when the guards revel in their power and push the prisoners beyond their limits in the name of scientific research. The experiment lasted only six days before psychology professor Philip Zimbardo pulled the plug on the whole sorry mess.
The film is mostly faithful ,offering a lean, straight to the point account of the events. No boring or irrelevant subplots going on. The actors are convincing and appear to relish their roles (maybe a sense of irony on the directors behalf..?). A good solid adaptation. Recommended.

One Hell of a Trip!

This is one show that follows like one giant mind fuck. From the tripped out scenes to the intensity that the characters bring to the show I couldn't look away. The whole concept of the show is New Gods vs. Old Gods in America. It's a conversation that started long ago when I was in college that begs to answer one singular question, what do Americans worship. This show personifies the Gods that were brought over from the different cultures immigrants come from. Putting them up between the 'Gods' or the modern era, television, internet, and the mysterious Mr. World who I haven't quite put my finger on yet. However, with such an intense concept it takes a minute for the show to sink in and even when it does it takes a bit of concentration to follow the actually plot. My best advice is to lean back and enjoy the intense, trippy scenes that come with every scene. All you really need to know is the basic plotline anyways! The rest will fall into place eventually!
