"Some Like It Hot. I grew up watching that. It’s one of the ones we watch at Christmas at my house. Jack Lemmon is just wonderful."

Love To Hate, Hate to Love
Grumpy Old Men- is a classic. It mixes comedy, drama and romanic. Both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are excellent in it, a dynamic duo.

The plot: John Gustafson (Jack Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) are two curmudgeonly neighbors who have been at each other's throats for years. The rivalry of the former friends intensifies when Ariel (Ann-Margret) comes along and provides a love interest for both of them. When Max finds out that John is experiencing family troubles and financial ruin, however, he steps in to help. Their bond is further cemented when John has a health scare and Max makes the ultimate sacrifice for his friend.

This was the sixth film starring both Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, and their first pairing since 1981's Buddy Buddy.

Its a excellent movie.

"Okay… as they are now. I might change my answers. Let’s see… The Apartment, starring Shirley Maclaine and Jack Lemmon; I mean, you don’t get much better than that."

"The Apartment, Jack Lemmon movie. That is a great movie. Again, it’s watching humans trying to live their lives, but beautifully done. Billy Wilder generally, I’m a great admirer of his work. Some Like it Hot is perhaps the more obvious choice, but there’s a kind of extra wackiness to Some Like it Hot, which I like less. But The Apartment is a fairly proper, serious movie, but with some wonderful social observations and ironies. And of course, it’s just a fabulous performance from Jack Lemmon, one of my very favorite performers."

"The perfect comedy, all the successful elements are there. Especially an amazing casting: Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, and as if it wasn’t enough, Marilyn Monroe, more beautiful and sensual than ever. You have to follow this movie with its insane glam, frenzied rhythm and beautiful black-and-white cinematography. You can’t do much better in terms of American comedy, all eras included."

Some Like It Hot (1959)

Classic Billy Wilder comedy farce, starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis (doing his Carey Grant impersonation), with the latter two playing down on their luck musicians who witness a mafia murder during the Prohibition Era of the 1920s and hatch a plan to escape Chicago by joining an all-girl band (enter Monroe) in drag in order to escape.

Full of sizzling one liners/repartee such as:

"Water Polo? Isn't that awfully dangerous? "
"I'll say. I had two horses drown under me..."

(I think it was 2)

and who can forger the final line of the film ("nobody's perfect")!

"This was where I fell in love for the first time. As a boy of maybe nine, or so. Marilyn really nailed my little, tentative heart. Something about her insane beauty, mixed with that self doubt and sensitivity she portrayed, was so effecting. The performances from Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are hilarious. Again, like most great films, this one has some quotes and moments that just stay in the mind and resonate. It’s a film about love and friendship and second chances, I think. Will never get tired of watching this, as long as I’ve got days on my calendar."

Short Cuts (1993)

"Robert Altman turns his multilevel, multidimensional auteur’s eye on the short stories of Raymond Carver, and creates one grim portrayal of Los Angeles culture that will leave you breathless. Many of the stories that make up Short Cuts could have spun off into TV series, so well drawn are the characters. Released after Altman’s smash hit The Player, Short Cuts came across as a disappointment, but after a recent viewing, I feel Short Cuts to be the superior and more lasting success. A killer cast that never gets in the way of the material has to be an all-time favorite of mine. With Tim Robbins, Julianne Moore, Robert Downey, Jack Lemmon, and Jennifer Jason Leigh."
