Mum seeks revenge for murder of her family
Pretty much knew what I was going to get watching this but decided to give it a go none the less.

Jennifer Garner witnesses her husband and daughter slaughtered and decides to go after those responsible and their boss when the court decides they should have no case to answer.

The usual revenge movie cliches are all present and correct in this film (corrupt judge..corrupt cop etc) and you pretty much know what to expect once she starts her down her path of own justice.

An ok movie with a good performance by garner.Worth a watch if your in the mood for some good old fashioned action and revenge.

Female Taken
Finally saw this, currently on Netflix. I like Jennifer Garner and she is quite good in this typical revenge action film. It has some good action scenes but it's fairly by the numbers stuff. Very cliche and the main problem is that it has been done better many times before whether it's Taken, Death Sentence, Equaliser, you get the idea. A fun watch though but nothing original.

This film does not hold up. I think the best part about it is that Christa B. Allen played a young Jennifer Garner, just like she does in 13 Going on 30. Matthew McConaughey's character is shallow and closed off, only to go on a journey with his girlfriends to see why. It's A Christmas Carol but significantly worse.

Emma Stone is the one that really shines in this film and I will forever love her huge hair and fake braces. I need a movie just about her. She's the highlight. Everything else is dull and boring to watch. Also, anytime I see Breckin Meyer in literally anything, I think about when he was in Garfield. That's the role he will never live down.

Love, Simon (2018)
2018 | Comedy, Drama, Romance
A teen angst rom-com for the modern age. It follows formula plot points well trodden except that Simon (played charmingly by Nick Robinson) is gay. This was a big step forward for a major studio such as 20th Century Fox to give it the mainstream film treatment it deserves.
There's some great music and a likeable cast, and plenty of humour.
On first watch you're kept guessing on who the mystery love interest Blue is and end up just as relieved/pleased as Simon when the truth is revealed.
Jennifer Garner as Simon's Mum gives a perfect speech at one point that makes me well up each time I see it. It stands up well to repeat viewings. A recommendation for anyone to watch, not just for teens.

Thanks to Smashbomb for the dvd!

Amazing!
I have been waiting years to watch this and finally got round too it!!!

Brilliant story with a sad start and action packed ending!

For a mother her happy place in life is with her family, but with the cartel having everyone in their pockets life and justice isn't always easy. A bad choice made on the dads behalf signing the death on his family, how ever the brilliant Jennifer garner survived and has trouble bringing her familys murder to a logical fair ending. In this action packed film you see raw emotions and how far a mother with go to get the ending she waited 5 years to fight for. With no one helping her it's down to her to go back and clean out all the trash!

This is a must see!!!

Tragedy strikes Riley North (Jennifer Garner) when her husband and young daughter are gunned down in a drive-by shooting. The shooters were all part of a local gang ran by Diego Garcia (Juan Pablo Raba). Garcia thought Riley’s husband, Chris (Jeff Hephner), was part of a plot to steal money from him. Chris had actually turned down the job but it was too late and Garcia ordered his henchmen to make a statement out of killing Chris. Riley despite being shot in the heard and unconscious she was still able to identify the murders of her husband and her daughter Carly (Cailey Fleming). Thinking she would get justice she testified at a preliminary hearing. But to her surprise the defense lawyer said due to being her injuries that she didn’t really know what she saw. Shockingly the prosecutor did nothing to help her and the judge declared there was not enough evidence to proceed. Feeling cheated and everyone was working against her Riley disappears. On the five year anniversary of the murder of her family the three men responsible are found hanging from a Ferris wheel. When Detective Beltran (John Ortiz) and Detective Carmichael (John Gallagher Jr.) show up to the crime scene the immediately wonder could Riley North be back and exacting vengeance.

This vigilante action film is pretty much what you think it will be. There is blood and a lot of action. The acting is okay but not really the focal point of the film. But one thing that is not in doubt is the ending, don’t worry I won’t spoil it I don’t need to. With the somewhat recent success of films like Taken, John Wick and The Equalizer, and their sequels, this genre is not lacking in content. For me this dilutes the quality and original story telling of this type of film. The director, Pierre Morel (Taken, The Gunman), seems at home in this film type and does a decent job here. Jennifer Garner comes off as a bad ass and I enjoyed her in this film. The rest of the cast is good but pretty stereotypical of the genre also. This is not a bad movie just one I feel I have seen before. I will say I enjoyed all three of the movies I mentioned above and that should speak well to this movie. I just wanted a little more. It is also worth mentioning that in many of the scenes where Garner was exacting her revenge the audience was prone to laugh as a bad guy was getting a bullet to the head or a file cabinet dropped on their head. That makes it hard to take the movie too seriously.
If you are a vigilante movie fan this is definitely one to check out. The action is good and there is definitely a good amount of it. A little over the top with the blood for me but not too bad. It is nice to see Garner back in the action world and I hope this leads to more from her. I would say save your theater money for another movie and stream this one when it hits your favorite service.

I’m not sure who enjoyed the new Disney movie ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’ more, the adults or the kids.

Steve Carrell as the out of work, stay at home dad and Jennifer Garner as the stressed out on the go working mom are funny and quick witted.

There were lots of funny situations and lots of laughs from the audience as we follow the family through a day that is ‘cursed’ upon them by the midnight wish of their middle child Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) on his birthday.

Alexander wishes that his family, for once, would understand what it is like to be in his shoes and have a ‘Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’.

What ensues is mishap after mishap for each member of their family, and ultimately, the lesson that no matter what, family is first and families need to stick together to overcome challenges.

I loved the movie, and my 6 year old liked it too, even though many of the jokes in dialogue were over his head.

I would give this movie 4 out of 5 stars, as a great family film, and great fun.

You've seen it all before
I hate to sound like a broken record here, but these movies are all starting to run together for me.

The premise, innocent woman has her family gunned down in front of her eyes. She goes off the grid for several years and then returns to track down and administer her own form of private justice in her complete transformation into a hardened killer. Along the way she encounters the usual sympathetic cop, dirty cop, innocent bystanders and becomes a social media sensation.

It is all too familiar like the recent Death Wish and Equalizer remakes it feels like this story has been told too many times recently and better than this one. The characters (especially the villains) are so generic and unmemorable they just blend into the background.

These "take the law into your own hands" films really have to go above and beyond to deliver something unique for me to be memorable since they are so formula these days and this one definitely did not.

I did enjoy watching Jennifer Garner kick some bad guy ass, but even that was done better in the recent Atomic Blonde.

Overall, meh.
