I really enjpyed this book, i have been meaning to read it for some time. I watched the film first which I don't usually do but that inspired me to buy the book. I have given it eight stars because i enjoyed the storyline and the development of the characters, even down to the school bullies. I love the character of Macon Ravenwood as much as I loved Jeremy Irons playing the role of him in the movie. My only criticism would be that it is perhaps a bit too long and drawn out, especially as it is part of a series.

Seductive Sparrows!
I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My sincerest apologies for not posting last week guys but sometimes university dissertation has to take priority you know?
Anyway, I have a killer book review today with the movie adaptation releasing on the 1st of March. The movie 'Red Sparrow' stars Jennifer Lawrence, ultimate baddest bitch of all time, alongside Joel Edgerton, Jeremy Irons and Matthias Schoenaerts.
I would always always advise you read the book before you watch a movie adaptation because I feel like you get more context and detail but thats just my biased view in favour of books :)

David McK (3185 KP) rated The Man in the Iron Mask (1998) in Movies

Late 90's drama, apparently based on the final of Alexandre Dumas's D'Artagnan Romances "Ten Years Later", and purporting to answer the mystery behind who was the real Man in the Iron Mask.
Yes, there was such a figure.
No, there's no historical evidence that he wore the mask 24/7, or that he was locked up in squalor.
This has an impressive cast list, including the likes of John Malkovich (Athos), GĂ©rard Depardieu (Porthos), Jeremy Irons (Aramis), Gabriel Byrne (D'Artagnan) and a still-very-young Leonardo Di Caprio (Philippe/Louis) - who was then very much still in his 'pretty boy' phase - but the film just never really seems to 'take off' at all.

Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated Assassin's Creed (2016) in Movies
Nov 10, 2017 (Updated Nov 10, 2017)
Underwhelming
Assassin's Creed is filled with some great action scenes, especially whilst in the animus, and as per usual acting from the leads Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons, is superb.
However, the film may have tried too hard to cater for both fans of the game and newcomers alike, which does not seem possible, and as a result, it failed to engage either audience. The story is a tapestry of old-world mysticism and sci-fi tech that hangs together but also proves hard to follow if you haven't played the games. Despite a high-class cast, it is disorienting, and makes very little sense.
Visually captivating but a paper thin and over blown premise which could have been the basis of a very interesting film.
