Having already mentioned my late arrival to the Lecter franchise I found this to be the weakest entry but still very entertaining and Julianne moore although not as amazing as Jodie Foster, delivers a strong performance and once again Hopkins is as frighteningly evil as Lecter.

"It was a shock, a real shock. The acting was so sincere, so honest. Brilliant performances from everybody, from Robert DeNiro and Jodie Foster. There are always good moments in the movie business, but that was a very intense moment in the American cinema. It was amazing to see those movies."

I was late to the table having only recently watched this gripping and monstrous psychological thriller, Jodie Foster as the FBI agent in training needing Hannibal Lecter's insight into a case, Hopkins plays the manipulative cannibal with aplomb and you fear for Clarice at every turn. Top quality scares in this one.

Still not sure about this one, the Sci-fi is sound and action is plentiful, however Jodie foster I found to be a poor baddie and punching above her weight, Sharlto Copley actually saves this one from petrol station reduced bin mediocraty for me, Neill Blomkamp's direction is razor sharp and in keeping with his usual style, not one I return to rewatch often.

An Interesting Role for Matt Damon
I quite enjoyed this film. It was fast paced and an interesting story (nothing like being told you're going to die, really lights a fire under your ass lol). The visuals were beautiful and I didn't expect Jodie Foster in such a harsh role so that was different. Similar to a few other movies brought out in 2013 this also plays on the societal 'class' system, overall an excellent film.

One Ordinary Day at a time is an ultimately uplifting story and I loved it. It’s not all plain sailing though.

Jodie has been in numerous foster placements as a child and a disastrous adult relationship. The only good things to have come out of it are her son Zak, and her drive to succeed and get into Cambridge University. But Jodie is living in one room with Zak and working at Prince Burger whilst she finishes her college course - and life is hard.

She meets Simon Sparks at Prince Burger and once she finds out that he has been to Cambridge, she’s determined to convince him to tutor her for her entrance interview. But Simon has a lot of secrets and has endured hardships and abuse of his own.

The narrators on the audiobook really brought this to life for me. Jodie’s narrator (Ayesha Kala) was spot on, but I did struggle a little with Simon’s narrator (Victor Oshin), and found that I had to speed the narration up more on his chapters. I do realise that he was probably trying to show how disconnected from real life Simon was, but it did annoy me 🤷🏼‍♀️. I liked that the narrative swapped between Jodie and Simon, so I often saw the same things from both of their viewpoints.

This is a really heartwarming story of overcoming adversity and working hard to get what you want out of life. A story of what being a good friend is all about.

A good start
This is a very impressive directorial debut from Jodie Foster. The movie stars two of the best actors in the industry, Julia Roberts and George Clooney. The two of them have a believable and amusing chemistry and the other players in the story also work together to achieve what is a thrilling if somewhat predictable time. The movie is well directed, but the script could definitely be a bit tighter and could also perhaps hide the twists in a more subtle way, but there is a sense of tension throughout the movie and there is definitely some fun to be had, just don’t expect anything more than a fairly shallow but still exciting film.
