There were a few things that I just didn't particularly like about this: Max was good at EVERYTHING, and I do mean everything; hand to hand combat, survival skills, hacking, attacking alligators, knowing how to disarm bombs etc. Just all seemed so OTT. As did Deedee? and Beenie. They were so annoying in their cliché-ness. Gay best friend of pampered, spoilt rich girl. Ugh. And then Jamie's reaction to every dangerous thing they encountered; to squeal like a banshee and tell Max to move away from the threat while staying by his side the whole time??

That being said, I am a little intrigued as to what might happen next with these two and own the next book but I might give it a while before I jump in.

Believable 80s nostalgia (0 more)
Not enough happening (0 more)
Having read three other David Mitchell books I had an idea in my head of what this one would be like. I think if I hadn't had those preconceptions I would have enjoyed it more because this one wasn't anything like the others.

The plot follows a year in the life of 13/14 year old Jason Taylor growing up in a small country town in the 80s. This digs deep into all of the trials and tribulations of growing up if you're not popular but instead a rather awkward stuttered.

I liked the nostalgia but I just felt that the story was a little too steady, I kept expecting some revelation that we might be building towards so ultimately I just felt a little underwhelmed.

Pretty good
I think my biggest issue with this book is the fact that I've read so many others like it, including more recent books from King himself. It's a shame as this book came out in 1980 so well before any others I've read (or indeed before I was even born), ive just never gotten round to reading it until now.

The story itself isn't bad and the characters are well developed as you'd always expect from King, and of course it's a well written story. I enjoyed reading it to a point and it was vagurly entertaining, but there's just something about this book that didn't wow me. It's a good read but it's by no means exceptional or stand out like a number of King's other stories.

"The mythology is that Jimmy Page played on that, but it's clearly Jeff Beck all the way - that personality. The interesting way they recorded the tracks is that the entire band were in the studio at the same time. And Ronnie Wood on bass. I think Ronnie Wood is actually a better bass player than he is a guitar player. The bass playing on that record is just great! You can hear mistakes, but listen to what the bass does in 'Rock My Plimsoul', it goes completely against the drums, but it gives it like a slinky snake-like feel. From beginning to end you have this kind of jamming, drunken-keyboard-player-in-a-New-Orleans-whorehouse-upright-piano feel. It's the best vocal that Rod Stewart has ever done on that first record, I don't think he's ever equalled it. He ran out of songs to do, so he covered 'Greensleeves' instrumental, he just didn't have any more songs! 'Shapes Of Things' was a cover that he originally did with The Yardbirds and then did a version here, and tore. It. Up. Such a heavy, heavy band. I remember seeing them live in New York City. The rest of the kids didn't understand, but I was just blown away. I remember it well, the opening band was the Crazy [World of] Arthur Brown. He came out in a mask with his head lit on fire. That was actually connected later to by fire-spitting in the band. I just thought, 'Well that's a good idea'. The thing you noticed that while everyone was drinking, flirting, talking or whatever, when Arthur Brown walked onstage with his head on fire, everyone stopped!"

A Different Kind of Love Story
Just like Pan's Labrynth this is a gorgeous fairytale with a whole new twist. I enjoyed the magical layers and depth that went into this film. Although I know many found it slow in comparison to Pan's Labrynth, however this film was not meant to be an extension of his previous masterpiece, rather it's meant to be a masterpiece all on its own. Personally, I believe it's accomplished just this.

I was expecting a lot better then it was, however it wasn't a bad book just got confusing and the characters kind of annoyed me. I did love cain and abel I will admit and Eve rocked but their trio conflict annoyed me. I felt like neither man seriously wanted to be with her and it was just a game to them. I enjoyed it but found myself fighting to make it through to the end and glad that it was over.

An ok 3rd installment, although straight to DVD release. Lower budget but the production is pretty good. It's just not as creepy as the first two films. The boy that appears at times was weird in the first two, in this it looks like an older actor was used. The same goes for Kayako, in the first two she was very strange and creepy, in this she just looks very white? For those who really liked the first two films.

Why do I have to give a book at least one star for it to be considered rated? 0 is a rating!

I put this book on the "read" shelf just so I won't forget that I tried it and didn't like it. Hambly's writing is excellent, as usual, but I wasn't in the mood for dystopia and I just didn't care much about the characters after the first 100 pages or so. I figure my time is much better spent elsewhere.

Should have locked its self up
This movie had a lot of potential but from the start you can tell that they didn't really know where they were going with it the acting was pretty bad the plot while there just never really took off and near the end it's kind of like they didn't know what they were doing and just slapped a bunch of stuff together and then Tada it was over, very weird pacing overall definitely let down.

Superheroes who on paper are the model heroes, but behind closed doors are a bunch of needy over powered arseholes. Oh and Starlight is stunningly beautiful, oh and Karl Urban is amazing, oh and the Superman clone is more like Brightburn ( OMG I need to review that as well!!) and just everything! Just watch it. If you have had enough of goody two shoe heroes watch this
