A wicked cocktail of "Looney Tunes", ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด๐ฆ ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐๐ข๐ค๐ฌ ๐๐ถ๐ช๐ญ๐ต, ๐๐ณ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฌ, and about 18 bags of crystal meth. Seldom has the term "bloodbath" ever been meant so literally, features perhaps the most gruesome and deeply unsettling throat slashes in all of cinema - and there's plenty of them. Remember that gag from ๐๐ฐ๐ต ๐๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ต๐ด! ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ต ๐๐ฆ๐ถ๐น where the little body count counter was in the corner of the screen while Charlie Sheen was gunning through hilarious amounts of enemies? That's pretty much this whole movie. Has such a primal sense of hyper, grisly fun - sets up one impossibly over-the-top scenario and then immediately tops it, rinse and repeat for 130 minutes. If it wasn't already clear that Tadanobu Asano is one of Japan's coolest and most magnetic actors then this makes the case ten-fold. He plays the role of Kakihara with an effortless, ice-cold, commanding gravitas. And that wardrobe! Just sadistically entertaining up and down, the type of film that makes you think like a juvenile psychopath.

The movie starts with a young lad creating a video diary before going to bed. The following morning he watches a video diary of.... Himself!?! A few more videos are shown back and forth and it becomes apparent that it's not a video diary as such, but more like a way of communicating with his other personality or something, I don't know, it was just weird. He even has another bed in his room depending on his personality from that day, omg this movie was giving me a heache as I could not get my head around it.
Eventually we find out that it isn't a split personality but 2 separate brothers living in the same body, yeah that doesn't sound much better than a split personality does it! Anyway I got bored very quickly, the main character had the personality of a dish cloth. I think I would have preferrerd to watch the life of the brother who seemingly had a better personality and more interesting life, but sadly we didn't see too much of him.

It's taken me almost two weeks to read this, which could be down to one or two reasons: One, this is a hardback, and a thick bulky one at that, or Two, I wasn't ready to let this series go after reading books 5-13 back to back.
Either way, I kind of lost interest in the middle of this book somehow, and struggled to get back into it for quite a while. That being said, I was interested in how Rachel and the gang were going to save the world, or Cincinnati, at least.
That last chapter confused me a little, with it just being Chapter 31, think it should have been Epilogue or something because Ray calling Rachel Mom? I was like "huh?" and it took a little time to be explained but that was a nice touch. Especially the last page or two with the news of possible heirs. SQUEEE!!! I'd be super happy for Trent and Rachel if they did manage to have a bubba :D

Technically my mum won a copy of this book via Goodreads' Giveaways/First Reads program, but since she doesn't write reviews and I do, I'll read it too.
------------------------------------------------------------
3.5 stars.
So, I've read it. And though it isn't my usual genre--I like to mix it up every so often--I must admit I got quite into it. I wanted to know what happened that night; what secret were the mum and daughter keeping? Was it really that bad? Who was this guy scaring them?
Now that I've read it, I've gotten answers to all of the above and strangely enough; I kind of feel it was justified. How Louise and Brooke went about it was just all wrong on many levels, especially what Louise did. I was extremely put off by that.
Some of the other stuff put me off as well. What was with Michael?
As I mentioned above, this isn't my usual genre but for a first book--going via createspace for paperbacks--this is a pretty good book.

He wants a future with her. She can't let go of the past. Will their desire be enough?
The Green Earth Commune isn't all that it seems. When psychic Isabelle de Grey arrives, only her ability to read the past reveals something is terribly amiss. Though her instincts tell her to run, Isabelle can't say no to a former friend in desperate need of help.
But the turmoil has just begun when FBI profiler Gavin "Mac" MacMillan arrives unexpectedly in Los Angeles. As the passion that has always claimed them heats to beyond boiling, Mac and Isabelle find themselves at a crossroads. Tugged in different directions while confronting both past and future, they find that, when it comes to choice, desire is all that matters.
A quick catch up with Mac and Isabella I really like this one and the start to a new case which is investigating a cult. So glad Mac has moved to be closer too!

I really enjoyed this retelling of Heraโs story. She wasnโt a woman to be messed with - and Zeus pushed her to her limits on many occasions. While she couldnโt punish the King of the Gods, she could certainly punish the women that he cheated on her with.
In the original stories, Hera is vilified, portrayed as unreasonably vengeful, spiteful even. In this version, we can see her motivations. She canโt possibly direct her revenge on her monarch - that would endanger her position and Zeus would deal with her like all those who acted against him.
Hera is complicated woman, and she acts in the only way she knows how to. Her anger has centuries to mature and grow, and thereโs a real sense of the passage of time. Itโs just that that passage is pretty meaningless to a God!
This novel doesnโt excuse Heraโs behaviour, but it certainly gives the reasons for it. I love Greek mythology, and Jennifer Saints retellings have been excellent. This is another great addition to the series.

Searching the Smoke for the Truth
West Hollywood has been rocked by a series of arsons in one night. The arsonist hit multiple apartment buildings by setting fire to a car in a car port. Just as Sharpe and Waler are beginning to piece some key clues together, a major fire impacts the city. Will this new fire distract them? Or will they be able to solve it as well?
There is a strong secondary plot as well that includes some major spoilers for the first book in the series. I didnโt like that storyline because it slowed things down with flashbacks and introduced some politics that hit wrong, especially after events in the last couple of months. On the other hand, I enjoyed the main storyline and all the great twists along the way. The characters are good but flat, and the male teenage humor doesnโt help them. There are some other laughs and great banter. I also enjoyed some scenes that were set close to me. Fans will enjoy this book, but I do wish it were stronger.
