It felt like it took me forever to finish this book, in fact, the last hundred pages or so I just skimmed through because at that point I just wanted to be finished. I almost didn't finish it in fact because I started not caring what happened by the end. The book was very wordy, the author was too detailed and descriptive with basically everything, I didn't really feel that invested in any of the characters and I just kept hoping it would get better but it never did. I'm glad that I tried, but I'm also happy I'm done and I can move on to something else.

Not the Disney movie that is for sure.
Kipling's The jungle Book is as odd as reading the original version of Tarzan. You anticipate something like the Disney movie of the same name and it is not that at all. Not better, not worse, just very different.

It was interesting while reading through this the different ways that the characters are handled and the difference in how Mogli grows and changes throughout the story. Much more than just the story we watched as kids in the movie, The Jungle Book is certainly one of those classics you should read just to knock it off your bucket list.

Breaking the Waves (1996)
Breaking the Waves (1996)
1996 | International, Drama, Romance

"Breaking the Waves was a big influence on me when I was studying cinema. It gave me the feeling that it was possible to make a film with just energy, with just a chair and a window. The roughness of the style—it’s like listening to a punk song. And I really loved the way that the female character is portrayed. There is something very disturbing and strong about the tension between sexual energy and spiritual searching."

"The first one with Brandon Lee. The whole set — it was a really cool set — I liked the whole vibe of it with the martial arts. I was a Brandon Lee fan, and that was a fairly bad-ass movie. That whole Hell’s Kitchen vibe in New York — that whole realm just has this cool mystifying vibe. It looked like it would be a fun set."

"Number five is Evil Dead 2. Mostly for the camera and the editing in that thing. The sheer kind of bravura, mad energy it had, you know. Like, when we get into our second act and the story starts picking up, we just wanted that energy, and we looked a lot at the way Raimi used the camera in that movie. It was almost cartoonish."

I am fascinated by this film. On the one hand, I think that the first two hours of the film are a lovely look into a slice of life of what living in Sicily looked like in the 40s-50s, the third act is a disappointing mess that leaves the viewer wishing that they had just stopped the movie at the two-hour mark.

Album Favorite

"When I heard Girl Talk I was already in Bikini Kill, towards starting my solo Julie Ruin thing and I clicked with everything with a female performer on it. I was always aware of Lesley Gore and her songs and Joan Jett had covered some of them and I was like, "Oh, these are actually kind of feminist." The things that I learned from her from that album in particular was that there was a certain quality to her voice that told a different story than some of the lyrics. The lyrics could be about one thing but the way she sang; her singing had such an amazing tone that you really can't duplicate. I was just listening to the tones of her voice, thinking about the voice as an instrument and thinking – this is when I was doing my solo record — "It's not just the lyrics you're singing, it's how you're singing them." And so much can come across in the way you're singing that can either underline or scratch out the lyrics or amplify them. So I started to realise there were all these nuances there and her voice just viscerally affected me. I started playing with that idea a lot on the solo record. Some things didn't really have lyrics, I was just singing made-up nonsense stuff, it was just the way I was singing that was getting across, I was just going for a feeling. I was really focused on the lyrics in Bikini Kill and getting across these certain ideas and then listening to Lesley Gore I started realising it's not just the lyrics but the tone. That you can make the song sound like a sunny day and you're driving in your car having a great time and you can make the song sound like it's been raining for the past year; that was a new thing I found in my tool box."

I just loves series. I have already review the first book to this series. I really like learning about Civil War era. I do not know what bring it out or if it the writing. I just enjoy the story behind it. You can learn so much. Why it just a wonderful thing to see the bonds of friendship and what all can bring people together. The stories are all different but it all great to read. To me it just makes me wonder and these stories also take me back in that time era. What life might have been if I was born in that era.

This movie... This whole plot... I don't even know what to say or where to begin. It's just bad. I like Matthew Goode, I've seen him in other things that are great and Amy Adams obviously is incredible, their chemistry was great. It's just... bad! The entire storyline of Anna going to Ireland to propose to Jeremy and falling for Declan along the way - it's just played out. Some of the characters and the journey itself were just tiresome and overplayed. I think it's a fine movie to watch to pass time, but not one that will ever be praised for being anything but a miss.

Great movie
RIP Anton Yelchin. He was an excellent actor that I think was very underrated. I love just about every movie he's ever been in. This movie shows, imo, what it's like to really love someone and how hard it can be to make that work sometimes. It's a tear-jerker, but well worth watching.
