It was immensely entertaining.I kept waiting for something horrible to go wrong, and was afraid that it may go the way of horror/sci-fi. Luckily it didn't, I have enough nightmare fuel.
I don't expect this film to be in theaters long, and I imagine it'll maybe fair better in a different market.

Between it's infectiously likable leads (Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves) and absolutely ridiculous travelling-through-history plot, Excellent Adventure is one of those films that can easily be enjoyed by an audience of all age groups. It's certainly of it's time when it comes to its soundtrack and avalanche of pop culture references, but over 30 years later this proves to be one of its many charms. (Apart from the unfortunate use of a homophobic slur that wouldn't fly by today's standards)
All in all, Excellent Adventure is a wonderful whole heap of fun that's become one of my ultimate comfort films. Most bodacious indeed.

Essentially a revenge movie (and following the events of the first movie), John Wick is forced out of retirement by a blood oath to carry out an assassination against a high profile target, with the individual doing so then putting out a hit against John - aka The Boogeyman - himself. This film, then, takes the opportunity to build the world in which John Wick inhabits, in particular the role of the chain of the Continental Hotels, in which no blood can be spilt under threat of becoming excommunicado (and thus setting up John Wick chapter 3)

Reeves plays vodka-swilling undercover cop Tom Ludlow, who is still reeling from the death of his wife and has been implicated in the murder of an officer. Now he has to fight to clear his name with the help of Forest Whitaker.
Ayer is well suited to this genre having written the scripts for Training Day, End of Watch and Harsh Times, so he understands the complexities of the genre in order to deliver a fast paced story. Intercutting the action at the right times.
Of course corruption is not uncommon in fiction and there is always a group of officers hell bent on covering up as much as they can and disposing of as many people as they need to.
The introduction of Hugh Laurie as Captain James Biggs, a man who seems clean cut but is not to be trusted, is a solid addition, although I still seem him as the idiotic Prince Regent in the Blackadder series.
Reeves and Whitaker each turn in a decent performance and there is enough meat on the bone make this a intelligently paced thriller.

More of the same as the first three, really: either deceptively clever or deceptively stupid, depending on where you're standing, with very funny performances from Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, who spend most of the film acting opposite themselves in increasingly outlandish prosthetic make-up. Rather generously, much of the film is given to their daughters, in a plotline leading up to a rather predictable climactic twist (clearly, white dudes are not capable of doing anything worthwhile any more). The message of the world coming together through song rings a bit false right now, but that's hardly the movie's fault). Amusing and difficult to dislike.

Young FBI agent going undercover, and falling in with an extreme sports crowd who later prove to be those responsible for the robberies.
Unsure of where his loyalties lie.
Charismatic leader of the extreme sports group.
Increasingly ridiculous stunts.
Wait, am I describing 'Point Break' or 'The Fast and the Furious' franchise??
Yes, it is clear that that later franchise (Fasrt and Furious) takes many elements from this earlier movie (albeit switching surfing for cars), which stars a - very young!, pre The Matrix or even Speed - Keanu Reeves (Johnny Utah) alongside an impressively mulleted Patrick Swayze (Bodhi) and Gary Busey as Utah's older FBI partner.
Lets face it, though, we're really here for the stunts (or, at least, the male audience is!): in particular the surfing and skydiving (without a parachute) scenes.
