Peter G. (247 KP) rated Bad Santa (2003) in Movies
Jun 12, 2019
By all accounts this is Thornton playing himself.
Another Christmas redemption story disguised as a heist job within a department store, Santa in this instance is a drunk womaniser which leads to all kinds of hilarity, it takes one kids undying love for Santa for him to have an epiphany, and here the story although formulaic has a suitable but somewhat sweet ending.

What a fantastic film this was. I wasn't expecting a lot from this but it drew me right in. I'd recommend this to anyone who has suffered grief or bereavement, it's portrayal of depression was spot on (without being too deep, it is supposed to be a fun movie which appeals to kids after all). Everyone needs a Baymax in their lives!

Mayhawke (97 KP) rated The Raven (1963) in Movies
Feb 9, 2018
Brillaint Slapstick Comic Horror
Enjoyable and silly, and by todays standards incredibly un-horrific.
Price sending up his entire oeuvre is arguably even better than when he is playing it straight.
Notable for raspberry jam, dodgy effects and a very, veeeery young Jack Nicholson.
Maybe a bit dated for modern tastes, but I love it and so did my kids 😊

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated Curious George in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This book doesn't hold up as well today as it did when I was a kid, not to mention that George really is kidnapped from his home. Still, kids will enjoy the story of the very curious monkey.

Mar 9, 2018
When a mysterious unseen foe kidnaps a cat and then one of the twins, the three Grace kids start to discover the strange secret of their new home. A strong plot and good character development kept me turning the pages of this novella.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2357 KP) rated Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Baseball gets the Amelia Bedelia treatment as she agrees to help out some neighborhood boys with a game against their cross town rivals. Another funny look at how words can mean multiple things that kids and parents will enjoy.

The Voice Acting
Disney classic and dog-gone good
I loved this movie as a kid and it still holds up. Endearing, great voice-acting, and just the right length for kids that are just getting into full length movies.
I freely admit that Cruella DeVille freaked me out as a kid though.

Dean (6927 KP) rated Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010) in Movies
Jun 5, 2018
The first of 3 films, about a kid trying to fit in at middle school. Everyone can relate to a large part of the film. Starting a new school, with older kids, growing up and trying to fit in. It has a few childish moments meant to be funny for very young viewers perhaps. Overall a decent family comedy film.
