"Oh, John Hughes…(sigh). A producer friend of mine was recently talking about his teenage daughter and said “You know, the problem is, she’s never seen a real film because they don’t make real movies for kids anymore.” Looking back at The Breakfast Club (which I must’ve watched 40 times by the time I was in the 6th grade), Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo’s Fire, et al — these were real movies. And Jesus, could we relate to them. Many still hold up — if you can ignore the acid-wash and the hair mousse."

"Top to bottom, a perfect film – pure joy! Brittany Murphy was one of the greats. I just think the joy in that movie and, again, maybe taking a character that seems harder to empathize with out of the gate, and [having us] realize what a human being she is, and [it’s] an exploration of a different side of culture. As a Jersey girl, it was always very fascinating and fun for me to see that sort of L.A. kids’ culture and, of course, the fashion. I just miss the ’90s."

Final entry in the late Terry Pratchett's so-called Bromeliad trilogy, with the events of this one running concurrently with those of (most of) the previous entry (that would be 'Diggers') and, this time around, following the exploits of the nomes Masklin, Angalo and Gurder as they travel to Florida in the company of Thing in order to contact their ship so they can get back home (wherever that is).

A fitting end to the trilogy, with some surprisingly deep observations for what is, essentially, a kids book!

I could have quite easily finished this book in one sitting if not for work.

I loved the camaraderie between Alexis and her wards, they were some pretty amazing, resilient kids.

I loved the almost instant connection between Alexis and Kieran. They had some amazing chemistry and I cannot wait to see where that goes.

And oh em gee! That assault course scene! My heart was pounding. That was one hell of a well written scene. I was captivated.

I've already downloaded book 2 just to see what else happens next with these two.

As it’s presented to her, the delivery man says it contains “life’s parade at your fingertips.” Sirk’s camera dollies in and holds on Jane’s distraught reflection in the golden television screen. It’s the most beautiful thing that’s ever happened in a movie.#"

"Okay. I’m going to say a weird one here — but what an amazing performance in that film. When I was a kid I just loved these kind of movies that just took me to another world. I still like watching it today. I watch it with my kids. Gene Wilder. What a performance. It’s just extraordinary. It’s just a film that’s always stayed with me and I still love it today. It’s still fascinating to look at. Gene Wilder is just wild and kind of lonely and mad and so unhinged. It’s a fantastic film."
