After being forced to form a book club with her feuding neighbors, Bea is shocked to find the owner of the local Chinese restaurant dead behind his cash register. With events that are mirroring their first book, MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, Bea and the reading group must figure out what the clues mean to find the killer.
The pace seemed off at times, although part of that was setting up the characters and the series. There was still plenty of time for some great twists that would have made Christie herself proud. Throw in some good characters and a nice dose of humor and you've got a winning series debut.

Kimmic (814 KP) rated Living with a Serial Killer in Books
Feb 21, 2018
Slow moving (2 more)
Not what you would expect at all
Found it difficult to like the main character
The title is the most exciting bit!
Contains spoilers, click to show
Well, I was very excited to read this book, and was quickly disappointed... I did finish it (with maybe scan reading towards the end). This book is about a weak woman being with a very controlling and dominating partner, there is no reference to him being a killer until the very end.
I am not sure I would even forward this book onto a Charity Shop for someone else to waste their time reading it. The title is very misleading and it was sure will for the book to get better that pushed me through to the end (p.s. it doesn't... get better that is!)

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2352 KP) rated Fatal Brushstroke (Aurora Anderson Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Rory Anderson is shocked when the body of a well-respected tole painter, Hester Bouquet, is found buried in her backyard. With a police chief who hates her, Rory knows if she wants to avoid going to jail, she needs to find the killer. But who might it be?
This is a strong debut. The plot was steady with interesting suspects and shifting clues and motives. I thought I had it figured out a couple of times, but it turned out I was wrong. The characters are fantastic as well, and I can hardly wait to visit the series regulars again. Plus I loved the fictional coast town setting.

Sue (5 KP) rated Til Death Do Us Party (A Liv And Di In Dixie Mystery #4) in Books
Aug 13, 2018
What could possibly happen at a wedding in Vegas?
Event planner Liv McKay is heading to Vegas to celebrate the nuptials of her mama and Earl at an Elvis themed chapel but runs into more trouble than she bargained for. For starters, they have a bachelorette party that doesn’t turn out as expected and then the Elvis impersonator wedding officiant dies just seconds before pronouncing the couple husband and wife.
If that isn’t the worse of things, Liv’s cousin Little Junior is listed as the prime suspect. Can Liv and her bestie Di figure out who the real killer is and also get mama and Earl hitched?
This book is filled with humorous and fun-loving southern characters, more twists and turns than can imagine, and a mystery that will keep you guessing.

Another great holiday read

Another great holiday read, this ones even more darker...
I love how this one jumps from present and 1997 a case Roy once worked on but never got solved! The killer is back again..
we also get a personal insight into Roy and Sandy ‘s relationship, I was always under the impression their relationship was perfect but this series shows another side to sandy.
This book is noticeably longer than the other 5 before it, which gives it chance to go in-depth with the past and present, with it making you guess who done it with quite a few suspects.
And last the endings sort of on a cliffhanger with ‘yac’ When will he make and appearance next...
And now onto the next one

Alicia S (193 KP) rated Unbreakable (Fallen Aces MC, #2) in Books
Sep 28, 2018
I fell in love with King & Elena's story in Unrequited and had been left on a killer cliffhanger!? Dove right in, dying to find out the rest of this incredible story. Elena is back in the hands of her psychotic husband Carlos, while left waiting for King to save her and their future. King is trying to make his way back to her while attempting to sort out Club business and gain that VP patch. He has to find a balance and otherwise he'll never be able to keep her... As in the first book, there is a ton going on in this series!? This book tore my heart out and kept me on the edge of my seat from page one... didn't want to put it down!? HIGHLY recommended book, series & author!!!

David McK (3562 KP) rated Star Wars: Darth Vader (2020), Volume 2 in Books
Mar 29, 2020
The second entry in the new Darth Vader series from Marvel, and honestly? The first one was better.
In this we find an answer to the mystery of Padme Amidala (or is she?) re-appearing, pretty much straight out of the gates: it's not Padme (no surprise), but rather one of her handmaidens - remember the Queens Double bit from The Phantom Menace? And, to a lesser extent, Attack of the Clones? There's your answer.
As before, the going on are then interlaced with flashbacks to Vader's earlier life as Anakin Skywalker, before Vader and Sabe then agree to work together for their mutual benefit as long as interests coincide (Vader wants to find and punish whoever hid Luke from him, while Sabe is hunting for Padme's killer, without knowing he's right in front of her!)
