Dubbsbrother1 (1 KP) rated Lady Bird (2017) in Movies
Dec 9, 2017
It’s been done before a hundred times
I don’t know why everyone is raving about this movie. It’s been done a hundred times before. It’s a coming of age drama. Girl lives in a town she doesn’t want to stay in. She fights with her mom. She needs to spread her wings. Blah blah blah. Last years coming of age movie Edge of Seventeen was infinitely better. I guess it’s sad that people are saying Lady Bird is one of the best movies of the year. It isn’t.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Star Wars: Most Wanted in Books

This young adult novel features Han and Qi'ra sometime before the events in the beginning of Solo. It gives much needed development to Qi'ra's character, and makes her actions at the end Solo completely understandable.
Both Han and Qi'ra are sent on missions by Lady Proxima, the head of the White Worms. Their missions are related, and when it goes south, they have to work together for the first time to get out of the mess. The story lags a little in the middle, but overall, it was entertaining.

Bee (0 KP) rated Lady Midnight in Books
Jan 29, 2018
Wow, what can I say? I thoroughly enjoyed reading Lady Midnight. I felt for all of the characters, I had favorites who turned into less desirable characters towards the end. I thought I'd predicted who the killer was and then a sense of dread and realisation and I found myself flicking back to earlier parts of the story to cement what I now knew was true before Emma pieced it together herself. I can't wait to read the next installment! I'm especially looking forward to seeing how Kit and Ty interact with each other.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Down the Rabbit Hole (Echo Falls, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
13-year-old Ingrid solves the murder of the crazy lady in her town after realizing she is the last one to see the victim alive. Aimed at teens, and they will probably enjoy it more then I did. I found the characters real but the plot very slow. What really bothered me was all the sneaking around and law breaking Ingrid did to solve the mystery.

Suswatibasu (1703 KP) rated Lady Bird (2017) in Movies

Another teen angst coming-of-age film
I was rather disappointed with this film, mostly because it definitely didn't live up to the hype.
There has been a spate of films that capture and showcase a city, and then casually layer it with a superficial story. In this case, it was Sacramento, California.
Here we see nothing particular new - a young teenager, played by the wonderful Saoirse Ronan, who insists on being called Lady Bird, hates her parents and wants to leave the nest desperately. Again nothing to see here. Beautifully shot, but shrug-worthy.

AT (1676 KP) rated Assaasination Classroom Vol. 2 in Books
Sep 17, 2018 (Updated Sep 17, 2018)
Volume 2 of Assassination Classroom continues the oddball storyline of a misfit class of students that are trying to assassinate their teacher. The book covers are colorful and cute, but the series is not for young readers. In book 2, we are introduced to a new teacher character, who happens to be a professional assassin. This lady needs to try her hand at the assassination as well as get used to teaching kids in a classroom setting. The class also gets to head out on a class trip to Koyoto. More fun to come...

Allison Knapp (118 KP) rated Century Hotel (2001) in Movies
Jan 20, 2019
Rain Maida from Our Lady Peace and his indie rock wife Chantal Kreviazuk playing off each other in an awkward manner throughout one of the storylines (3 more)
Many intriguing storylines to follow
Plenty of accurate cultural and time period related storylines
Interesting and diverse characters
Rare gem
The movie revolves around one hotel room over the case of several decades, from its inaugural tenants, to a chilling scenario on New Year's Eve of the new millennium. A masterpiece from Canada which is a rare find but totally worth it.
