How I loved this book! I’ve read it in completely the wrong order - I know that Practical Magic should have been first, but I got caught up in the heat of the moment, and ordered this from the library when it came out. I’m glad I did though. It’s a lovely story, nothing like how I expected it to be. I expected it to be more stereotypically ‘witchy’, but it was much more subtle. This prequel follows two sisters and their brothers as they grow up and recognise that they are different to their peers - they are witches. Their mother encourages them to hide their abilities, to ignore them, but they know that they can't, and when they spend a summer holiday with their aunt they are encouraged to do the opposite of their mother's instructions. They also don't follow their mothers' instructions when she tells them not to fall in love - because of the family curse they are told that it will end badly.
 Well worth a read!!

Stays very close to the animated original (0 more)
The beast cgi is lacking (1 more)
The whole movie feels hollow
More beast than beauty
After watching jon favreau's fantastic the jungle book I was hyped to see what disney did with their 2nd attempt at a live action remake of their animated library of classics. Unfortunately it's no where near as polished imo. There is some good performances though. Josh gad is hilarious as LeFou and contributes the majority of the comedy. However the lack of emotion in what's supposed to be an emotional romance is lost in this movie. The choice to use a cgi beast baffles me. And there is so many opportunities with a cast as strong as this but unfortunately Bill Condon fails to stir up the romance and emotion that the animation did in 1991. Emma Watson took me off guard me with her singing which was a pleasant surprise. Overall it was fairly entertaining however with the calibre of talent on show i kinda expecred more.

Probably the most useful app/website I use as an online book reviewer. Allows me to not only track my reading throughout the year, but also to divide it up so I can easily reference it. For example, if I've reviewed a book here, and on other sites as well, I can create a bookshelf for each website it's been reviewed on for quick reference.
The addition of the "Scan the book" feature last year (where it can quick scan the cover of a book and figure out which book it is) made adding books to my "to read" list whenever I'm at a bookstore or library beyond easy, and the ability to "reread books" has allowed me to keep a more accurate account of what I have read each year.
The giveaways are easier to find on the website than through the app itself, but they are awesome. Definitely a great way to get your hands on some free books if you're an avid reader on a tight budget, or if you like to read books before they come out.

AWESOME!
Well, when I first saw it was a movie I was excited. But then when I saw it was a book I was curious. I then checked it out from the Aplington library. When I was done with the previous book I started reading The Circle immediately. I was immediately interested because at the beginning we read about Mae. A young woman who has arrived at The Circle for her first day on the job. I have told friends and family who I have talked about the book to and I am going to say it here. It is an extremely well detailed book. It's incredible. I never got bored with the book. It surprised me throughout. I would recommend this to anyone no matter what their reading interests are. I would recommend for high schoolers up to adults. Also, being in highs school already I think this would be a great book for a high school English class. I thought the characters were incredible and incredibly described. The plot was very well written and like I said earlier never bored me.

Circe was my April Book of the Month club pick, and WOW was it epic. I haven't read Song of Achilles, but I just put a hold on it with my library, because this book was amazing. So amazing, in fact, that it sent me into a bit of a reading slump - what book could follow up this masterwork?

This is actually going to be a pretty short review because I'm just in awe of this book. Circe begins as a somewhat naive child in her father's household, unaware of her own power until her brother points it out to her. For those powers, she is banished to a deserted island, but her powers only grow from there. We meet many figures of Greek mythology - from gods and goddesses to mortals and monsters like Scylla and the Minotaur.

I just don't even know how to properly review this book other than it was amazing. If you like Greek mythology at ALL, you should read this book. It's captivating.
