Phillip McSween (751 KP) rated The Grinch (2018) in Movies

A Quick Story That Doesn't Linger
A retelling of an old classic, The Grinch is the story of a cranky green curmudgeon hell bent on destroying Christmas.
Acting: 10
Beginning: 10
Characters: 10
What’s a great Grinch movie without the star of the show being an awesome character you love to hate? I loved his story that touched a bit on his history and what made him the character he became. The supporting cast adds more excellence to the movie, but it would be nothing overall without the green guy. The movie captures exactly how mean he is like when he knocks down a kid’s snowman or puts something out of reach for a group of old ladies.
The side characters were something to love which added to the film’s originality. I loved the goat and the reindeer as well as his trusted dog Max. Cindy Lou was just the cutest.
Cinematography/Visuals: 10
Conflict: 6
The conflict is there, but there is a bit of detraction having heard and seen this tale before. You kind of know what’s going to happen and would be very surprised if the Grinch didn’t end up turning over a new leaf by the end of it. The Who’s aren’t going to lose Christmas and we know it’s only a matter of time before everyone is happy again. Still, it was fun watching everything unfold again.
Entertainment Value: 6
The Grinch does have its merits of originality, but you can’t help but feel like you’ve seen this all before just in a different packaging. It is still funny, endearing, and touching even though it can be a bit repetitive at times.
Memorability: 9
Pace: 10
Plot: 10
Resolution: 6
Overall: 87
Yes The Grinch is a borrowed story, but I loved what Universal Pictures did with this movie. With beautiful animations and sweet story, this movie is definitely worth incorporating into the rotation. I highly recommend it.

This fantastic read was difficult to put down and though I certainly enjoyed the storyline, I fell in love with the vivid worldbuilding that this author weaved and that beautiful characters that quickly pull you into the story. This paranormal read will hook you from the beginning and keep you dangled in its web until the end. -YA/NA Book Divas

Dec 12, 2017 (Updated Dec 12, 2017)
Every book I have read that has been written by this author has received a five star rating from me and this one is no different. This was a fast paced and exciting story line that kept me captured in the author's web from beginning to end. The characters popped to life right in front of me and I so wish this was a longer read as I would love to know more about Maelstrom who is truly an evil vampire and my curiosity is piqued.

Fans of the Persona series or new to the franchise would love this game!
If you are a fan or not a fan of anime or the other Persona games this one is fun, entertaining, and funny. The puzzles are challenging but not crazy hard. There is a lot to do and can build your personality for your character.

Strong Female Main Character
Start of an amazing series
This book is a little Beauty and the Beast-esque, which makes me love it all the more.
Especially as Belle is my favourite Disney Princess!
The main character is a strong female who overcomes many challenges, she certainly can't be seen as weak or a damsel in distress.
Highly recommend this YA series to anyone that enjoys fantasy, it is possibly a bit graphic for younger readers though.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated No Easy Way Out (No Safety in Numbers, #2) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
In [No Easy Way Out] Lorentz continues the saga of the people stuck in the mall after a plague is unleashed. Alliances are formed but someone is not being truthful. Oh yeah, the bodies are piling up.This is a fast paced continuation of the previous book [No Safety in Numbers]. The story takes some minor twists and turns and you find out more about the characters. The interesting thing is how the characters see each other is not what the reader see's. Love being omniscient!
Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated The Rift in Books
Jan 12, 2018
[The Rift] by [Walter J. Williams] is exactly the type of book I love to read. I enjoy dystopian that could actually happen such as the Yellowstone Volcano or, in this case, the New Madrid Fault. [Williams] does a great job describing the events that could happen if this fault slipped. Also he does a nice job creating characters both likable and ones you keep hoping will die. The way he brings all the different story lines together is predictable but works. I recommend this book.

quite predictable
A good super hero movie, but not too gripping
I love DC, which unfortunately makes this movie a difficult one to watch. It was a nice movie, but did not give the character any real justice. The story is not well formed, and sort of seem like it was just thrown together. Overall it is a fun movie to watch, but probably best to have it as a movie in the background to enjoy it.
