What an incredible journey [Amy Neftzger] takes us on in [The Orphanage of Miracles]! As a public school teacher as a got to the end it seemed to me an allegory for what is happening to our education system. That even though they have good intentions, the people in charge are stifling "miracles". You can not have success without failure, it is how we learn.

Of course I may be reading too much into this as I have a tendency to do when I am passionate about something. The "quest" of Kelsey helped her to grow. At the same time the "questioning" of Maggie, Nicholas, and Jovan helped them free themselves.

I definitely recommend this book! Never stop growing miracles

"This ain't no place for the weary kind"
What an amazing film, superb acting from Jeff Bridges but, also from Gyllenhaal, Farrell and Duvall. The soundtrack to this film was ever so important and it goes a long way to help to make the film so special.
Bridges plays Bad Blake, a down on his luck country music legend, Bad is in a drunken, dark and lonely place but lucky for us, we get to see a transformation, and one that I can't see anyone else, other than Jeff Bridges pulling off so well.
Go all country and watch Crazy Heart you hear? You'll not regret it!

In this stand alone novel, Scott James is trying to return to the LAPD after being shot in the line of duty, losing his partner in the process. He's joined the K-9 unit and teamed up with Maggie, a dog who has also undergone trauma. Will the two help each other heal? And will Scott track down the men who shot him? This reminds me why I need to read more Crais. I loved the book, feeling for the characters and getting caught up in the story. I'm not a dog person either, so that tells you just how great the characters are.

"There is something so beautifully slippery about this film. The narrative skips, slides, and loops; you're forced to hold on to the characters as you’re propelled through the film. Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung circle around each other, so vulnerable and captivating. You yearn to get closer to them, to stay longer with them, but the film slips through your fingers the way their love slips through theirs. All that’s left is for Leung to whisper his love into ears of ancient stone, hoping it stays on this earth. I watched a print of the film a few years ago in Los Angeles. When the credits began to roll, something within me broke, and I cried and cried and cried."
