What an absolute flop!!!
After loving "this is going to hurt" I was so excited to get this when it came out. And then it arrived. For the price of a standard hardback I got a pocket notebook! Oh well it still has potential.... nope! This feels like an absolute stretch to make money on another release around christmas using the back of the last book (which was actually really good) to sell to previous fans. I feel this flop will actually do the opposite and put people off buying the next one (if there is another) because they were tricked into buying this rubbish with an expectation that it would be as good as the first. This one went straight into the charity shop bag!

Started this book and got into it from the first chapter. A couples baby goes missing while they are having dinner at their neighbours. The husbands business is failing and hes desperate for money, and so I thought "okay I know what happened". This book starts you off thinking it's super predictable, but then more twists show all those involved. At the end when the baby is finally home, it appears all is well and a happy ending.... in the last chapter one last twist means no happy ending after all. All in all easy to read and follow, just 300 or so pages of plot twists that make you want to keep reading to get the full truth.

Spoiler! There are a LOT of ridiculously cute (unless you have no Soul, and, well, then, it won't be so cute) photos of sloths, taken by the author, NCSU grad (go WolfPack!) Sam Trull! With the pages of the book, we are presented with recollections, along with accompanying photos, from Sam's work at the Sloth Institute Costa Rica, which she co-founded. I smiled (A LOT), and even teared up at the end, but all in all, it was money well spent! If my wife and I ever hit the lottery, we have both agreed upon donating to the Institute. Thank you, Sam, for sharing your stories with us!

** I would have finished it sooner, but I was trying to ration it, to make it last longer.

So everyone's talking about Spiderman. As a huge Marvel geek, I am obviously disappointed there's a chance all the work the MCU has put in could be undone to an extent now that Sony has ended its deal with Disney. The chatter online centres around how awful Disney, Marvel and Sony are because they only care about money and not the fans...

The thing is, those companies didn't get where they're at today by not thinking about money and making smart business decisions. It's a vicious circle. On the one hand, yes, it's the fans that make them the money by consuming the product, but those companies need to money to make that product. I know Disney isn't exactly short of a few quid, but I can kind of see their point here.

When Marvel/Disney first acquired the rights to Spiderman, they were desperate. They didn't actually fully acquire them, they basically rented them in an extortionate deal that saw Sony keep 95% of the profits. Fast-forward a few years and Spiderman: Far From Home grosses $1.1B worldwide. From Sony's point of view, it became their biggest movie ever. For Disney, it was their fourth billion-dollar movie of the year. Knowing they have an excellent product, the Disney/Marvel Finance department said, "Hey, 5% of a billion is WAY less than, say, 50% of a billion. Seeing as we do everything, we should totally ask for more money, right?"

A fair point. However, Sony's Finance Department saw the proposal and were all like, "Hey, did you know, if we give 50% of a billion away, we're left with WAY less than if we only give 5% of a billion away?" This was backed up by Sony's top execs saying, "We still own Spiderman. We're Kings of the world now because we had one huge hit that someone else gave us. They need us more than we need them now. Tell Disney they get the same 5% or they get nothing."

I understand Sony not wanting a 50/50 split when it's their IP, but they need to understand they only made the money they did because Marvel but its name on it. I also think Disney could've negotiated a little. Maybe 75/25, for the sake of not ruining a multi-billion-dollar franchise they've spent 11 years building?

As things stand, the next Spiderman film will be made by Sony and will not be a part of the MCU, although talks between the two companies are apparently ongoing. For me, this is easily remedied by one of three options:

1. Sony stops being greedy and making childish excuses, Disney stops being unrealistic, and they negotiate like grown-ups.
2. Disney pays whatever Sony wants to obtain the full rights to the Spiderman franchise - pretty sure it'll be worth it.
3. Disney just buys Sony to spite them. Because they can. Probably.

People who say these companies don't care about the fans are thinking with their comic book hearts and I get that. But this is all a business at the end of the day. Sony are acting like stubborn bullies here. Disney need to be the bigger person. Whatever amount they have to part with will still be made back twice over, because it's Marvel. What's right for business is also right for the fans - put the MCU franchise first.

A Tigers Destiny ( Tiger Protectors book 3)
By Terry Bolryder

Kel Cunningham is the only white tiger shifter in the world. Taller, stronger, and faster than almost anyone, he's the best protection money can buy. Still, his two older brothers have found mates and Kel is ready to find a special someone of his own and settle down. And when his latest job brings him face to face with curvy Sofia, the first woman to make his tiger sit up and growl possessively, he thinks maybe she's the one. That is, if he can keep her safe and figure out why everyone in the underworld seems to be hunting her.

Sofia doesn't know what to make of the giant, model-gorgeous man hired to protect her. Kel's ice blue eyes, blond hair, and tall body stand out wherever he goes, and Sofia doesn't need to fall for a man that could get her noticed. But she soon sees that Kel is capable of handling anything that comes their way, and that beneath that muscular, sexy chest is one of the kindest hearts she has ever met. She knows she should stay distant, keep her secrets and trust no one. But Kel's warm, safe arms and searing kisses make her want to break all her rules.

So the last of the brothers is mates! Terry Bolryder has a formula and she sticks to it! This doesn’t make each book less enjoyable at all I still love them and most shifter readers will! They are quick but fun reads.
So now we continue onto the dragons and finding their dragon heart!

Young Women is set against the #MeToo era. It’s a fascinating read, and it was interesting to take a look into the lives of Emily and her friend Tamsin.

Emily meets Tamsin at a protest march and they become friends very quickly. Tamsin is an actress who seems to be living a very expensive life. She owns a flat in Soho, eats in expensive restaurants and drinks in even more expensive bars. In contrast, Emily shares a small flat, and works for a charity that deals with women’s advocacy. Her life is very different, and she’s excited by what Tamsin has to offer.

When an actress comes forward to accuse a film director of sexual assault, Emily realises that Tamsin is involved in some way.

This novel looks at how women can be coerced into keeping quiet about assault and in this case, with large sums of money. We see how men have all the power, how acts of sexual assault by males are all too frequent and commonplace, and how women can make themselves complicit whilst experiencing trauma.

There’s a lot to talk about in this novel, and I think it would make an outstanding book club book. It would certainly create a great deal of discussion around both sides of the equation. All of the men are written as complication inappropriate behaviours around women, and the women initially take the money in exchange for their silence, only to disclose what happened to them later.

This is a brilliant book, I hope people will read it and discuss the questions it raises about our society as a whole.

Ya'll I cannot express my love for RL Mathewson - nor this series - I've probably read the entire series twice and the first few books about 5 times, I just recently listened to this audiobook and I just, I need more - RL just keeps stealing my money and it should make me sad but truly, it doesnt - and her interaction with fans is impeccable. Jason will always be my favourite Bradford and the epilogue was probably my favourite part of the book - mostly, and the use of YOU BASTARD just was undeniable in this book.. seriously, obsessed - also I think there's a reference to hollywood hearts book 1 in there - which even after I read this book multiple times I just now noticed, I clearly need help - read this series .. do it NOW

Adam Carolla recommended Love and Death (1975) in Movies (curated)

Love and Death (1975)
Love and Death (1975)
1975 | Classics, Comedy, Drama

"One of the best joke-for-joke movies ever put together, and many people haven’t seen it. That’s part of the reason why I’d like to [mention it]. I don’t want to create a list of movies that everyone has seen before; I want you guys to dig it out a little bit. A lot of physical humor, a lot of intellectual humor, just an insane movie for Woody Allen to make. Tons of jokes. People remember Sleeper and they remember Bananas, and Take the Money and Run and stuff like that. Love and Death gets lost a little in the Woody Allen shuffle. He has better films, like one I’ll name in a second, but he does not have a film with more jokes — just jokes — than Love and Death."

A good end
So the final series as we now enter 1985. The porn industry is changing with the introduction of VHS and also camcorders available. The prostitution game has changed as well meaning less money for organised crime, drug deals are being done, relationships of the main characters are going in different directions. Street crime has become a problem and the city what to clean up the Deuce to make way for million dollar property investments. The Hiv illness is also rife at the time.
Maybe slightly weaker than the first 2 series and overall not as dramatic in terms of storylines, but still with some big surprises. If you have invested in the first 2 series it's worth watching this to see how it turns out for the characters.
