Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
The MCU was in full swing during the summer blockbuster season of 2011. Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III, Jumanji) helmed this adaptation of the comic with his usual confidence. Chris Evans has now become a staple of the MCU and his origins story is definitely one of the most interesting.
The villains, well, they suffer here and are frankly a little ridiculous, but the special effects are on-point and it has a great score by Alan Silvestri. All in all, a pretty average first outing for the First Avenger, but one to build on with the two sequels that followed.

Finally a decent Spiderman movie
Tom Holland is a spectacular Spiderman he is the closest to the comic version out of all the actors to portray the character. I was unsure about Michael Keaton as Toomes/Vulture at first but he was excellent. The addition of Tony Stark and Happy was a great idea but not necessarily needed, it feels they were added to get the bums on seats in case it failed. All in all, the action and thrills you expect from Marvel/Disney and then some. I loved the Sam Raimi trilogy, and i cant wait to see what Jon Watts can do with his incarnation of Spidey

Chrissie-ann (78 KP) rated Thor: Ragnarok (2017) in Movies

One of my favourite movies
While I love Marvel there are some characters I thought I wouldn't enjoy. I was pretty much forced to watch the Thor films, enjoying them. And then we came to Ragnarok and I was completey blown away. This film made its way into my top movies, much to my surprise! Full of action, with acting that I couldn't fault one bit. I felt like I became invested in the characters throughout and cared for them. While the film being in a fantasy world it felt completely real as if these things happen every day. I was in awe at the effects and overall in the film itself.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Marvel Studios: Expanding the Universe (2019) in Movies

This 12 minute documentary was essentially a long trailer for the upcoming MCU Disney+ shows. It consisted of the announcements and information that came from SDCC and D23 this past year. There wasn't any new info on the Ms. Marvel, Moonknight, and She-Hulk series. The only new footage was some behind the scenes stuff. And hey, I'll look at Tom Hiddleston's profile for an extra 10 seconds.
What struck me as interesting was the amount of time spent on the Hawkeye show, considering the drama with Jeremy Renner. I guess that means they're not planning on firing him? I'm assuming that they'll probably minimize his role in the show, if anything.

I am Groot. I am Groot. I am Groot.
I am Groot,
We are Groot.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Initially viewed as one of the riskier entries into mnarvel's (then) expanding cinematic universe starring, as it did, a talking raccoon and a talking tree and taking its inspiration form one of the lesser-known Marvel comics (admit it, who'd heard of them prior to this film? Unlike, say, Captain America?) this proved to be one of its biggest hits and made a star of Chris Pratt (as Peter Quill, aka StarLord), helped - in no small part - by a killer soundtrack, a bit of comedic leanings and - of course - by the brilliant Groot!
Not quite as good as Baby Groot from the sequel, though ...

My favourite avenger returns in a highly enjoyable superior sequel. Marvel has got the formula just right here with a perfect blend of humour and action. The plot isn’t overly complex or requiring you to have an encyclopaedic knowledge of the timeline to enjoy but for those up on everything it does fill in some gaps of events between Infinity War and Endgame. The best thing about the film is of course Paul Rudd and I can’t think of anyone better suited for the role than him, this sequel improves on the original by having bigger roles for both Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas . The dynamic they have with Rudd makes for a very entertaining ride.
