The film almost forces the viewer to remember being in middle school, and that is somehow simultaneously cathartic and unbearably embarrassing.

I love seeing the classic fairy tales you know in this way. It's very fun and enjoyable and also at times kind of deep for a middle grade book.

Middle Grade
This was a pretty good read. Billy's parents have just seperated, and his family is learning how to cope with those changes. I liked how the story showed that while adults normally mean well they can make the wrong decision.
Kyera (8 KP) rated Amina's Voice in Books
Feb 1, 2018
Aminas Voice is a powerful middle-grade novel that I believe is so important for young readers to experience. Amina is a Pakistani-American, so we are given a wonderfully diverse, young voice to understand her world and it is so important in the current world climate. We, as a people, need to foster a sense of understanding and acceptance rather than fear and hate.
One of the events that happen in the books is heartbreaking and you wonder how people could behave in that manner. Unfortunately, these things happen in the real world and its dismaying to see people treat other fellow human beings in a less than honourable and respectful manner. It was so wonderful to see the community come together after the event, no matter their race or religion to help their neighbors. It is a ray of light in the darkness.
This short book follows Aminas life from her sixth-grade classes and middle school friends to her time at the Mosque with her Muslim friends and family. The tale is honest and heartwarming, allowing us into her mind and connecting with her family. Although it is a short tale, it is no less important to read. I would highly recommend it to middle-grade readers (and really anyone else who is open to middle-grade fiction) because it is such a powerful and important read.

Middle grade book that explores the magical world and how good and evil are viewed. It is well written and both authors did a good job about blending the voice. As I haven't read Cassandra Clare and a really long time since I've read Holly Blake i can't say which style they lean toward, if either.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2200 KP) rated The Mouse and the Motorcycle (Ralph S. Mouse, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A mouse living in a motel room bonds with a family who stays there over a toy motorcycle. What adventures await now that he can ride? A bit of a slow start, but still a very fun book for middle grade readers.

Cori June (3033 KP) rated In the Hand of the Goddess (Song of the Lioness, #2) in Books

You can see where her writing starts to smooth out. And the themes while they don't delve too deep are still thought provoking, especially, to the middle grade ages that its written for, and it talks about loyalty, love, betrayal and lying. It's an easy read and the older you get the lower the stakes seem. It's also a good reread.
