"Two great films about the search for meaning in the face of death. The scenes in which the main characters come to terms with their existence—the scene on the swing in the park with the snow falling in Ikiru, and the final scene in Wild Strawberries, where the main character calls across time to his parents and the past—are so powerful and beautiful. It saddens me that most modern-day films don’t approach this level of art and emotion."

"It was hard to choose one Antonioni film, but Red Desert feels like the perfect summation of Antonioni’s work. Antonioni used color for the first time in order to show psychological imbalance and subjectivity. He depicted the modern alienation surrounding the industrial fog that’s imposed upon our lives in urban environments, and he shows how these forces can threaten our sanity. The film also has the most freakishly uncomfortable sex scene, which turns an entire room pink. Only Monica Vitti has that power"

A wonderfully tragic tale
This is one of those films that really brings you in and you just want to keep watching even though you know it has a tragic ending.
Both Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman are amazing, and the supporting cast is incredible. Then the music, well it is amazing. It is spot on for the era with modern music lyrics in there.
I absolutely love this film it is fun and romantic and just so colourful.

"What do you do when your life falls apart, when you’ve lost your creative mojo, your once-loving son ignores you, and your husband’s a barely-contributing pothead? For Judy Vogel, the answer is simple: she starts wearing her dog in a baby sling. Sounds crazy, but this funny and deeply moving book makes it plausible, and has a lot to say about modern life, as it satirizes things that already feel over the top, from pricey creativity gurus to progressive private schools."

A fun frolic with the Gods of our time
Not my favourite Gaiman book but still a fantastic read. I love how he brings the idea of God's to life and explores the worshipping we partake in in todays consumer driven society.
As always the worlds he creates come alive in often painful detail. The characters are twisted and relatable and the darkness is punctured with laugh out loud humour.
Quick, easy and enjoyable trek through modern mythology.
