an incredible addition to the blade runner universe (3 more)
visually beautiful, spectacular effects
a real treat for the eyes and ears, with an incredible soundtrack
intriguing with a continued exploration of identity and ethics
my god what a movie!! i rarely enjoy modern additions to classic movie franchises but this truly is a wonderful exception: my only thought after i finished was that this film was pure art

Great fight choreography (1 more)
Good ol' training montages
Punches above its weight
I wasn't sure what to expect from this after the Balboa offering. I didn't get my hopes up but was pleasantly surprised. There is a lot of character development while still maintaining the best bits of a Rocky film but with a modern setting. Actually having a current big name boxer like Tony Bellew (almost playing himself) in the film made a huge difference. The fights are good, soundtrack is decent and the story isn't cheesy thankfully. Well worth going a few rounds with.

An intricately beautiful collection of characters
Elizabeth Strout has a unique ability to create a whole world of detailed and emotional characters that you can just follow throughout the series of books. While you see much less of Lucy Barton in this book, we see how her family members and people in her community have fared. It seems to me like a modern day To Kill a Mockingbird, especially the part about poverty in areas of America.
Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated Dystopia (Dystopia, #1) in Books

[Dystopia] by [Janet McNulty] is a modern version of [1984] and example of when good intentions get caught up in greed and people are too lazy to care. The characters were very well developed as well as their relationships. The whole idea struck me as what people in the old Soviet Union must have felt like. (I am a history nerd.) I feel the message is that no matter what if people are apathetic they will lose what means the most to them and sometimes standing up for what is right can be really hard.

I loved it. Everyone else hated it.
A dark, modern, American twist on Alice's wonderland. This really disturbing, cringe inducing stuff coupled with bizarre charm is part of Gilliam's gift, and I would argue this stands up to his most famous work. Though this is definitely a little smaller in stature than Brazil, it has it's own elements of dystopia- albeit on a more personal level- and hits a little closer to raw emotion. Not for the faint of heart.

One of Hanks' Best
I don't know anyone who doesn't love this film. It's a modern day classic - funny, sad and ridiculously heartwarming. Forrest is one of the most loveable protagonists and is played brilliantly by Tom Hanks, but yet it also provides some of the best supporting characters in Bubba and Lieutenant Dan. I love that it ties in with historical events and It's one of the few films I could watch over and over again and not get bored of. They don't make films like this anymore.
Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated Sherlock - Season 1 in TV

First series is the best series by far
Without a doubt, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman transformed the face of Sherlock, completely updating it for modern viewing. Sherlock is played to be on some kind of spectrum, which allows him to work out calculations at lightning speed. He's arrogant but hilarious and Watson is an absolute spellbinder of a sidekick. The bromance is beautiful. But the first series by far is the most coherent without going into odd tangents and storylines. Really worth the watch.
