What it’s about:
Sisters is about July and September, born 10 months apart and as close as twins. They’ve only ever needed each other. But when school bullying results in them moving away with their mother to an abandoned house on the Yorkshire coast, their relationship starts to fracture. And as they push one another to do increasingly daring things, July starts to realise that something isn’t quite right.
My thoughts:
I love a quirky read, and Sisters is exactly that. I was never quite sure what July and September were going to do next, and their demands of each other were at times really dangerous. They are very insular and don’t seems to want anyone else involved in their relationship - even their mother. Even the house they live in is unfriendly, set in a hostile environment.
This isn’t a scary book at all, but it’s packed with suspense and there’s a really uncomfortable, disorientating atmosphere.
I loved it.

Lindsay (1779 KP) rated A Life Apart in Books

I enjoy this era a bit. I kept interest in WWII. I also like the way this book went about differently and how things got complicated between the father and mother of the book. I also like how a romance happened between a white soldier and a black soldier sister. You learn about some of the things going on Civil Rights. You see it though his daughters, their mothers. It really is a good book.

Lee and Joe are getting married, but getting Lee's mother to come to town is proving to be a challenge. It might have to do with a huge family secret. What does the past mean for the present? This was a fast moving book with plenty of twists and the usual great characters.

Odelia travels to Massachusetts to find the mother who abandoned her 34 years before. When she finds her mom, the older woman is kneeling over a dead body in a corn maze. This book juggles the mystery with the story about Odelia's family quite well. I couldn't put it down.

Sue (5 KP) rated Turn A Blind Eye (A Florida Murder Mystery) in Books
Aug 13, 2018
This book has it all, a little romance, some suspense, and quite a bit "I never saw that coming". It is a combination cozy mystery and suspense/romance, which makes it a great book for all three genres of readers. This story entwines the lives of Libby, her sister Mia, the couple that helped Libby through a horrible time in her life, and Rebecca a mother trying to understand what happened to her daughter.
