Riotously silly computer game adaptation, as magic DNA jollop falls out of the sky and turns animals into giant, aggressive monsters; one of them happens to be genial Dwayne Johnson's pet gorilla, so there's bound to be trouble.
One of those films where everyone is in on the joke - doesn't bear much resemblance to the original game, but works pretty well as a piece of nonsense anyway. Johnson is a reassuring presence in the middle of it all, and the film does a surprisingly good job of catching some of the essence of the classic Japanese monster movies which obviously inspired it. Probably not going to win any of the major Oscars but still good fun while it's in front of you.

Lenard (726 KP) rated Anna (2019) in Movies

Luc Besson loves to make intricately plotted action movies. Anna is set near the end of the Cold War. The CIA and KGB use whatever methods they can to gain an advantage. In 1990, the KGB captured several CIA operatives and Agent Miller is seriously pissed off. At the same time, a Russian junkie is tracked down by the KGB to become a sleeper agent. But Anna, once she cleans up, is a striking beauty who wants to be free. Luc Besson keeps the viewer guessing on who is the puppet and who is the puppet master. Anna is Luc's calling card to write the new Black Widow movie about a KGB agent who turns into a spy for the US.

Almost
One if those frustrating movies that us almost very special but doesn't quite get there. Does it want to be a gross out comedy, a teen coming of age or an indie Anericana deep thinking poignant drama. It tries to be all three and loses some of it's identity.
I think although it was trying to be mature it's audience is the late teens. I should have loved this film, I normally love this genre but my attention kept wandering. Everytime it tried to be poignant or sentimental it suddenly had to good out not allowing it's true meaning to come through. It could have been so much better but just failed to hit the mark.

Excellent
Wasn't sure what to expect from this one but it turned out to be REALLY good. I won't give too much away but if you're into any kind of movies that have people with special abilities you'll enjoy this story. Think "Firestarter" on steroids. The acting was well done and the cinematography and effects were too. The story itself, while a little bit slow paced at first gradually grows more intense and powerful. The little girl was excellent in her role. By the end I was on the edge of my seat(even though it was a little predictable). And, although it kind of left it open for a sequel, I'm not holding that against Hollywood in this one, cause Id watch it. REALLY worth a watch.

Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated The Lodge (2019) in Movies
Mar 4, 2020 (Updated Mar 4, 2020)
I think the movie distributor must have gotten lost in a snowstorm, but The Lodge finally made it to theater here in Hawaii. And like a snowstorm, this movie will chill you to your bones. I love going into movies without knowing much about it, but know this, The Lodge is truly terrifying and will leave you frozen in your seat as credits roll; pun intended. The direction and scripture from Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz twas amazing. Alicia Silverstone gives a mind blowing performance! As does the rest of cast. Elvis Presley would be so proud of the performance given by his granddaughter Riley Keough. If you do not see The Lodge, that is one sin you will have to repent.

King Of The Jungle
Tarzan- I love this movie, this is one of my favorite animation films of all time. Its a classic.
The plot: In this Disney animated tale, the orphaned Tarzan (Tony Goldwyn) grows up in the remote African wilderness, raised by the gentle gorilla Kala (Glenn Close). When a British expedition enters the jungle, Tarzan encounters the beautiful Jane (Minnie Driver) and recognizes that, like her, he's human. Falling in love with Jane, Tarzan is torn between embracing civilization and staying with his gorilla family, which becomes threatened by the ruthless hunter Clayton (Brian Blessed).
Its a excellent and fantastic movie made by Disney before the 2000's. When the 2000's hit went on a downhill slop. But ill get to those movies.

I genuinely think this is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I'm a real sucker for 'based on a true story' films, especially when the content is so riveting and this film really hit the mark. This cast is phenomenal, each character had a purpose, had meaning, had heart. The plot is obviously so intriguing and it keeps you pulled in. You find yourself rooting for Spotlight throughout the film and you can feel how much each of these characters love the story, are passionate about the story, through the screen. And Mark Ruffalo? He was the stand out to me, no doubt. He has this screen presence that is unlike most actors I've seen. I love this film.

Great Western can watch over and over !!!
I had opportunity to watch this film recently. I am really impressed of how the storytelling, music, and cinematography all complement each other. I have enjoyed other classic westerns that star John Wayne. But Clint Eastwood does a great job as the central character in this western as does the supporting cast. The thing I love the most about the film is the fact is does not focus too much on dialogue. Instead the character's facial expressions combined with great music compositions tells the audience what is going on. If you enjoy movies I encourage you to check out this film you will not be disappointed.

Not bad
This is an older one I'd never seen. Thre cinematography was decent and the story played out really well. The acting was good. It had more than a fe faces I'd recognized from old tv shows and movies. It had a decent twist on your typical demonic possession movie. Nothing too terribly graphic-a couple of "almost" sex scenes but they kept it clean. A little bit more on the violence side but it had a very "90s" feel about it(imo)-showing you just enough blood and guts to keep you interested but not overdoing it. Overall this was an entertaining film from before Megan Fox haf a bunch of work done(when she was better looking). Worth a watch!
