Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)
2018 | Adventure, Family, Fantasy, Mystery
Let me start out by saying, if you have never seen the first Fantastic Beasts movie or have little knowledge of the Wizarding World, you will probably not understand this movie.
Personally, I loved it! Yes, there is the whole McGonagall not being born yet situation, but I can look past that to all the depth put into the movie. It provided the audience with an overload of information to prepare the viewer for future movies. Newt has become my favorite character! Also, the baby Nifflers are adorable. Let’s not forget to mention that huge twist in the end! I’m still slightly confused over THAT, but there are lots of theories and ideas going through my brain. So, if you are a Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts fan, go watch it!

Mixed emotions
I recently got an Amazon firestick and caught this movie that way. The acting, cinematography and effects were good but the story was a little disappointing. It completely altered the origins of Venom. Being a comic fan, that didn't go unnoticed. It would have been fine if the whole movie wasn't based on a character from the comics. If I didn't know who Venom was and the characters involved, I'd give this a better rating. However, this is a popular iconic character from the Spiderman lore and doesn't even mention the webslinger or take place in the same city. If you don't care about all that, but like adventure movies, you'll still enjoy this one. Not the greatest comic book movie adaptation, but still an entertaining movie. Worth a watch.

Creepy
I didn't really know what to expect from this movie- and it's a weird one. The acting/cinematography were fine. The story was a little slow moving, but unfolded well enough. Took some strange turns and had plenty of "creep" factor throughout. It doesn't make much sense at first. Wasn't sure if it was going to be a "ghost/haunting" movie or a "demon/possession" movie. Turned out to be kinda both. As it unfolds it all comes together at the end and is explained. Some of the imagery/effects are probably a bit too much for little kids (decapitated bodies, etc) but you adults should enjoy this one if you're into creepy horror movies. While not the greatest movie out there, I'd say this one is definitely worth a watch.

Aliens: Bug Hunt

A compilation of Alien(s) stories, set during the events of all 4 of the original movies (Alien, Aliens, Ali3n and Alien: Resurrection), with a large portion of these concentrating on just-about-everybodies favourite characters from the second movie: that of the Colonial Marines.

As a compilation, some of these stories are better than others: the stand-outs (to me) are the one about Bishop, the one about the history of the Pulse Rifle (yes, seriously! Somebody actually took time to write up a piece on that!) and the one told from an Alien Point-of-view (such as it were).

However, some of the others seem overly-formulaic: Marines get sent to distant planet that has lost communication with the inhabitants, to find the Weyland-Yutani has a hand in the proceedings ...

This is one of my all time favorite comedies. It's just so fun and nostalgic. For being a recent film, it actually feels a little bit like it was made in the 80s. It literally does that good of a job capturing that whole vibe. The soundtrack is fantastic and Topher Grace's character works at Suncoast Video...FREAKING SUNCOAST VIDEO! This is one of my go to movies when I'm depressed. It just makes me happy.

One of those movies which has clearly been influential but remains relatively little-seen, certainly in the original version. XB-1 and its crew (mostly good-looking young people, a few rugged old character actors, and a fairly dreadful robot prop) blast off for Alpha Centauri but must come to terms with the strains of long-haul spaceflight and various dangers (radiation, dangerous derelicts, and so on).

Arguably the missing link between Forbidden Planet and 2001: A Space Odyssey (yes, that's a bold claim), with a strange mixture of pulp SF tropes but also downbeat psychological realism. Notably good and interesting sets, photography, and a memorable avant-garde musical score too. The story is a bit episodic and not exactly pacey, but the rest of the film makes up for this.

Outstanding!
This falls just short of a true masterpiece. I felt there was no need to reference bruce wayne in the film at all or show the death of his parents as most avid fans will already know the deal but i can see why this may have been done for a new audience. There were a few things that I love about this movie...you show this to someone who has never heard or seen it and you could believe it was a film made 20 even 30 years ago. The other is that even if you don't like comic book movies, you could still enjoy this as a film about a struggling man in society. Saw it twice and was just as mesmerising the 2nd time.

It's arguable that Disney take a big risk in making a sequel to one of their most beloved movies (and the one that Walt Disney himself saw as their pinnacle), decades after the original, and with a different actor (Emily Blunt) taking on the role most associated with Julie Andrews.

And, while it's enjoyable enough, this doesn't really hold a candle to that original, despite Emily Blunt giving it her all (and, from what I remember, portraying a somewhat 'softer' Mary Poppins).

The structure is pretty similar to the first film, complete with a last-minute rush to the bank, with the film again focusing on the Banks family: the 2 children from the original now grown up, with worries and a family of their own providing the McGuffin that gets Mary Poppins to return.

River of darkness is just bad, not even one of those movies that are so bad that their good, this movie was just an absolute disaster from the beginning, I have no idea what the director or producer were thinking, they shoulda just stopped to save face but they didn't.

When this movie dropped I was drawn to it as fan impact wrestling fka TNA which starred their talent (at the time) I remember paying £10 for this crud and regretting it (although I've since bought it again for £1- nostalgia I guess)

If you wanna try it out either pay cheap or maybe its on YouTube?

Had a great plot idea but the budget must have been zilch.

I loved the book that this movie is based on so, so much. It was one of the best books that I read in 2018 along with it's sequel Leah on the Offbeat. And this was one of the best movies that I saw in 2018. The acting is superb and it's so relevant to today's society and culture with the pop culture references of Harry Potter, Brendon Urie, and even a Hamilton Easter Egg which I enjoyed. It also touches your heart and has a lot of themes to do with family at the very core and learning to let people see you for who you really are
