The First Lady of Mexico is a wanted woman, wanted for the murder of her husband, the President...
A cat and mouse game between her and the authorities who want her caught and bought to justice, Determined to try and prove herself innocent and not knowing who to trust and where to turn she leaves her family behind to try and find the truth...
The story is gripping and fast paced and reminds me of 24 in some ways, you feel for the characters and get drawn into the story with enough twists to keep it interesting. This is one of the better political thrillers of recent times.

F***ed Up S**t
Long-time friends Alvin and Fran talk about the true crime you probably haven't heard of, because most podcasts cover the white male serial killers and not the minority serial killers covered in Affirmative Murder. Sprinkled with adult language, mood lightening occasional humour, and conversations about difficult topics, these two manage to be irreverent, informative, intelligent, and enlightening.
They don't mind if you look sideways at them when you pass them on the street, as long as you look at everyone else with suspicion too.
Welcome to the most educational fact-free zone you ever entered. ♥️

Ross (3284 KP) rated Before Watchmen: Minutemen in Books

A good backstory
Although not officially Moore-approved, this six-issue collection gives a glimpse of the glitz and glamour of the original group of superheroes, before Watchmen. We get a short introduction to the members of the crew (most of which have their own volumes in the "Before Watchmen" series), and how they came about and interacted. Some amusing fails from their early attempts to foil justice (remember these aren't superheroes, these are guys who donned a costume and went looking for trouble), leading up to a case involving the kidnapping and murder of children.
I'm not a huge fan of the artwork here, being quite cartoony, but it seems to fit the era OK.

When it all comes together
One man's goal, to find out the truth when other specialsts can't... A woman who has remained silent, unable or unwilling to talk after being found over the dead body of her partner and sent to a hospital for mental health issues after being found guilty of his murder...
I read the second half of this book in one sitting after being gripped at one point mid way through and just couldn't put it down, wanting to know exactly what happened that fateful day.
The story does appear slightly fragmented at points BUT it all come together in the end and then you see why.

Its different
More than 300 years in the future, society has been transformed by new technology, leading to human bodies being interchangeable and death no longer being permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the only surviving soldier of a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned for centuries until impossibly wealthy businessman Laurens Bancroft offers him the chance to live again. Kovacs will have to do something for Bancroft, though, if he wants to be resurrected. Bancroft's request of Kovacs is to solve a murder -- Bancroft's. "Altered Carbon" is based on Richard K. Morgan's cyberpunk noir novel of the same name.
