Rolling Stone's 278th greatest album of all time
I had hoped this album would be a 1-disc compilation of the likes of Bob Dylan and maybe some of the San Francisco bands. Sadly, it turned out to be a 6-disc set of a diverse range of musical styles prevalent throughout young America in the late 1920s and early 30s.
Some of this was good, the more typical blues songs much like Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters. There were a number of Cajun songs which were listenable. There were also a number of fairly poor early gospel songs which were really hard to suffer through.
This is an important album historically, showing some of the earliest musical recordings, and chronicling the range of musical style, that could almost be mapped across the USA.
Interestingly, "King Kong Kitchie-Kitchie-Ki-Me-Oh" is a variation of the old Scottish song "Frog Went A-Courting", written about various French suitors to Scots nobles. I found it interesting that this song must have travelled across the Atlantic and been adapted to suit the tastes there.

Banana pants awesomeness
This movie is banana pants crazy and awesomely awful. Most of the musical score is one of those old auto keyboard settings on repeat. The production is terrible. It’s obvious some of the actors are reading their lines.

David Cassidy is best known for his role on the 1970s television series The Partridge Family, but the late singer/actor had a musical career that stretched over a few decades.

The singer sadly passed away this week, hence Billboard takes a look at some of his most loved work.

"I did it as a musical when I left drama school. Back in ’76, I did it as a Christmas pantomime [laughing] and so the movie is kind of indelible in my head. I wish I could say I played one of the main roles. I was just a chocolate tree."

This movie is so ridiculously overrated and I have no idea as to why it was even nominated for awards. Why even show the beginning musical number if Gosling and Stone weren't even performing in it? This movie solely relied on Ryan Gosling being attractive enough to distract from the boring plot.

Obsessed. That is the best way for me to describe how I feel about this Live Musical experience. I have been obsessed with it and will continue to be obsessed with it. It introduced me to the greatness that is Brennin Hunt and for that I will forever be grateful for that.

I'm a Rocketman!
Since the trailer dropped I was ready for this film, and I was not disappointed.

The film of course details Elton John's life and rise to superstardom and the pitfalls that accompany that.

Yes it's a musical, yes I loved it.

Go see this film!!!

Fantastic!
When I went to watch this I was a little dubious as I thought Will Smith had a lot to live up to in his role. In my opinion he was on par with Robin Williams but completely different, he had a certain swagger that was really funny.

"That was one of the 50 albums my mum played all the time when I was a little kid - that is just so deep in my subconscious that I can't even describe what it is I feel when I hear her singing. I remember coming back from college and playing some Laura Branigan for Chris Keating or some friend and them just thinking it was second rate Donna Summer, which it probably is. But I'm like, "Don't you hear the emotion in her voice - it sounds like she's crying!" That was the kind of over the top but still sincere genuine passion I wanted to get on 'Hold You Tight' from the musical. All the reviews of the musical are very critical of this one song, which is probably one of my favourite songs, because it actually sounds like it could be from a musical. It's very Broadway and not very indie rock at all, and I kind of wish we'd been a little less conservative in just going for it. 'Self control' is a timeless theme. Keep it under control in the day and let loose at night."

Richard Linklater is a favourite director of mine and he doesn't disappoint in this musical comedy.
It has so many great moments and acting is top notch with Jack Black a stand out, the talented children and the heartwarming story are the icing on the cake, very re-watchable.
