Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, What We Do in the Shadows, Jojo Rabbit) produces a homegrown comedic romp. Madeleine Sami and Jackie van Beek star/direct a charming, unique picture about two women who help other people break up with their significant others. Laugh out loud funny from two lesser-known New Zealand talents. 7/10

"Heavenly Creatures; put a New Zealand one in here, for national pride, but I do think it’s a beautiful and interesting film. It’s the most beautiful film about matricide he ever made."

"Amelia Murray known as Fazerdaze is an indie darling from the homeland Auckland, New Zealand. Any time I need a positive mantra, I just have to sing along to this enough until I believe it for myself."

"Would be in the top five. Because I’m from New Zealand, and the movie was very impactful when I saw it. It was so incredible to see a story about the beginnings of my country of New Zealand. Well, not the beginnings, because there were indigenous people there, but when the settlers came, it’s just such an interesting story to see. And also, it was all filmed around where I grew up, and I’ve never seen a movie that was filmed in the part of the world that I grew up in. And Jane Campion is one of my favorite filmmakers."

"Also bought in an airport bookstore, in hardback, and carried lovingly from New Zealand to Europe and back. It is a monumental book in every way, and when I am done happily re-reading it on hypothetical desert island, I imagine I could use it as a small table."

I’ve been watching a fair amount of movies coming from New Zealand lately and I have to say that I’m finding them great viewing and Baby Done is no exception, this Baby-Rom-Com is a film that had me laughing out loud at the journey that Zoe (Matafeo) takes for the nine months after finding out she is pregnant.

"This is a song that I fell in love with on a trip to New Zealand and Australia. It was my first vacation without my family and I took my friend John with me. ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ was the first song we heard even before we landed - I think it was playing on the flight. We got to Australia and just kept it on repeat, it was our party anthem for the entire trip. “When we got to New Zealand, we did a Lord of the Rings helicopter tour and after that we took off we played the song on repeat for the whole journey for almost two hours straight. Since then it’s remained one of my favourite songs of all time. I’m planning to get the lyrics tattooed on my arm - I think probably the first verse, on my shoulder in a circle."
