Gisell Middleton (189 KP) rated The Long Call in Books

This novel immediately reminded me of Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series. The bucolic setting is similar as well as the structure and characters. I found this story a bit slow and drawn out. Although it is a good book and up to par with Penny’s novels, it is not for me.
Jessica Erdas (463 KP) rated The Killing Dance (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #6) in Books

I honestly think this book has been the best in the series. I'll repeat my normal complaint that the dialogue repeating from book to book and numerous grammatical errors are rather irritating but the story progresses very well. Pretty fast paced compared to some of the others so far. Not as predictable, although some aspects I called pretty early on. Not to mention, quite a bit more relationship progress. I'm a little torn with how it ended up but excited to read on. I had no idea when I started this series that there were already 27 in the series but I'm hooked enough to continue on.
David McK (3623 KP) rated King of Ithaca (Adventures of Odysseus, #1) in Books

While, reading the synopsis, this seems like the type of book I would enjoy, I have to say: I actually found this to be quite a dry read.
The first in a planned series of books ('The Adventures of Odysseus'), this one deals with the pre Trojan-war days, with (at the start of the novel) Odysseus not yet King of Ithaca. Centring primarily on one of Odysseus companions rather than Odysseus himself, this does have plenty of intrigue and action, but I (unfortunately) found none of those to be that stirring.
Not a patch on David Gemmell's Troy series ('Lord of the Silver Bow', Shield of Thunder' and 'Fall of Kings') of books.

Tom Turner (388 KP) rated Valour in Books

I find that most second books in a series tend to struggle a bit, especially if the series has more than three books. This is mainly due to there not being a natural arc for the individual book. Thankfully this was not the case with this book. Gwynne started strong with the first book, and has just bulked up. I will admit I did get lost at some points, but that's because the number of characters can be overwhelming at times. This however is no critism as the majority have their place, and I'm sure the ones that haven't quite done so already, will do in the next two books. Being it on!

Hysterical
This series is brilliant. The mysteries generally are not very deep. But the characters will keep you howling. Stephanie is a bounty hunter, for whom nothing every goes right. She is surrounded by a hilarious cast of characters. My favorite is her pistol packing grandma who goes to funeral as the highlight if her social scene. Fast paced and funny, this is a great series.
graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Sins of the Night (Dark-Hunter, #8) in Books

A very interesting addition to the Dark-Hunter series. I liked that it featured a Dark-Huntress and an 'other'. They were both very likable and there were some interesting characters introduced with this book. Also, it was cool that it had a different way for them to be together than usual; I really did not see that coming. Overall I really enjoyed this book, it was a great addition to the series!
Heather Heath (18 KP) rated Star Trek: Discovery in TV
Apr 19, 2019
Its an ok show. I grew up whatching the original series, TNG, Deep space 9, and the other Two series. Seen all the movies. (Step dad and husband big Star Trek fans) The show could be better if they allowed more characters development to the other characters. And it almost becoming predictable. Like what is Michelle Bernum going to on this episode? This is suppose to be Star Trek not the Michelle Bernnum show
Awix (3310 KP) rated Godzilla 2000 (1999) in Movies
Mar 17, 2018 (Updated May 30, 2019)
Not quite the two-thousandth Godzilla movie, though it might feel that way to non-fans of this kind of thing. Aliens who've spent sixty million years asleep at the bottom of the sea wake up and try to steal Godzilla's DNA; things do not go according to plan, with bad results for everyone (except perhaps Godzilla himself).
The first Japanese movie to follow the reviled American Godzilla reboots the series again; you would have thought this was a splendid opportunity for Toho to show just how this sort of thing should be done. Alas no: there are some good bits here, and baddie monster Orga is quite impressive (though not in the film for long enough), but the film has the usual problem of not seeming to be that interested in Godzilla himself - it's not clear whether Godzilla is meant to be anti-hero or antagonist, either. Some duff CGI on display, too. Rather than being a showcase for the series, this is a dull and derivative movie that's not especially interesting to look at.
