Andrea D (21 KP) rated Split (2016) in Movies
Jan 8, 2019
Excellent acting (1 more)
Surprising
Amazing! Good to see M Night back on track.
It's good to see M Night (not butchering his last name here!) back on track with the dark and suspense filled Split. I couldn't keep my eyes off of it and I'm usually the sort of person doing 40 things at once while "watching" a movie or tv series.
It lacked the massive twist expected from M Night but it was better this way and I was pleased to discover the sequel coming out this year.

David McK (3692 KP) rated The Crow Goddess (Lugh Mac Romain, #2) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
The sequel to "A Shadow of Gulls", the Crow Goddess continues the story of Lugh the Harper and Cuchullain, although reading the former is not a pre-requisite to reading this.
Whereas the previous novel revolved mainly around the Ulster series of Legends (most particularly the Cattle Raid of Cooley), this novel takes place in both Roman Britain (the first half, and prior to the building of Hadrians Wall) and Ireland. The second part of the novel - the part in Ireland itself - concerns Cuchullains legendary death more than his legendary life.
Well worth a read!

David McK (3692 KP) rated Roadkill (Cal Leandros, #5) in Books
Jan 30, 2019
Fifth book in the Cal Leandros series, and Rob Thurman appears to have learnt her lesson from the disappointing "Deathwish".
Again, the narrative is told in the first person but (thankfully) this time, Rob Thurman does not take it chapter about to have different characters speaking. Whereas "Deathwish" had it brother about per chapter (who 'sounded' far too alike), "Roadkill" only has Cal Leandros narrating, with his sections 'book-ended' by a chapter told by a completely different character, complete with their own distinctive voice.
This is a return to form!

Sara Cox (1845 KP) rated Gavin and Stacey: Christmas special 2019 in TV
Dec 31, 2019
Contains spoilers, click to show
I absolutely love Gavin and Stacey and was so excited for this Christmas special! I love that they used the same actor for Neill the baby as 10 years ago! I thought the episode was absolutely brilliant and I'm more angry at Smithy's new girlfriend for not allowing Bryn to tell us at what happened at the fishing trip, as I truly thought we were going to be told, than I am about her utter disdain for the family. I really hope that this is a lead on to another series!
Sarah (82 KP) rated Titans - Season 1 in TV
Jan 20, 2019
Excellent from DC Comics
Im not usually one for watching DC, I much prefer Marvel but this series has definitely turned my head. Great storyline, with a few flashbacks as to how Dick became Batman's partner. Then the stories of the other heroes are just as interesting and weaved into the whole season. I've nearly finished this season and already cant wait for the next.
It has amazing graphics which I guess you would expect from DC anyway. I love the way the heroes band together to make a surrogate family.

James Koppert (2698 KP) rated Alan Partridge's Scissored Isle in TV
Nov 13, 2019
Go to the bathroom first. You could wet yourself
Alan offends the working class on air so goes to seek redemption and we get a documentary delivered in his acutely awkward way. It is patronising, difficult to watch and so funny I had to keep rewinding it as I was still laughing from the previous scene.
Oh, if you don't like Alan Partridge you won't like this. Why you don't, I don't know.

EmersonRose (320 KP) rated Daja's Book (Circle of Magic, #3) in Books
Nov 20, 2019
This continuation of Tamora Pierce’s Circle of Magic series careers with it the same magical world and the same characters that she made me love in the first book. I enjoy that in each book not only do the title characters get more backstory and more fleshed out but the entire cast of characters receive more depth. My favorite part of this book is the connection that has been forming between the characters. The strength of their bond carries the story, and I love the way in which their friendship manifests.
