An all-female society is discovered in the middle of nowhere (I envisioned deepest, darkest South America, in the jungle somewhere) by three male explorers. They arrive with their male preconceptions, and two of them change their way of thinking for the better.
It's an idyllic life in Herland (the men's name for the country, not the women's - they never mention a name). There is someone in charge, but she's elected. No (or little) conflict, no crime, everyone does their share. Motherhood is sacred and limited to one child. They conceive magically, it seems, as there are no men, and all women share the parenting. It's idyllic all right!
A short little novella, and an easy, quick read. It's interesting to see what a woman in the early part of the twentieth century thought would be an idyllic society - and rather telling that men didn't actually feature in it at all!

Don't you just love it when you hit upon a book that is as hot as hell but will also make you laugh? I know I do and that's what I got with Scarlet. She has reached the incredibly OLD age of 30 and hasn't yet found her mates. Due to her having the Mark, she is now having to attend a Gathering in which she will try to find them.
I love the descriptions of the Wickham triplets and find it hilarious when Scarlet's mouth runs away with her. She may have two mates but she is not prepared to just let them walk all over her.
The descriptions of Scarlet's Alphas was also very well-done as they did indeed seem to balance each other out. Madden made me smile more than once with his quips.
A novella but jam-packed full of action and hotness. Can't wait to read Gabriella, book 2 in this series.
David McK (3734 KP) rated Trapped (The Iron Druid Chronicles, #5) in Books

In this, Atticus's apprentice Granuaille has finally nearly finished her training, with a large part of the story dealing with Atticus's attempts to get some peace in order to do so: a peace that keeps getting interrupted by the gods and goddesses of various pantheons, a lot of whom bear a grudge against him for various reasons (with the end of the novel having Atticus trying to make amends for previous actions - personally, I felt this was a bit 'tacked on' - against the Norse pantheon)
Comic relief, as always, is provided by his Irish Wolfhound Oberon (who Atticus can mentally communicate with), providing a much needed dose of lightening to the proceedings.
