Nick Kroll recommended The Producers (1967) in Movies (curated)

The Producers (1967)
The Producers (1967)
1967 | Classics, Comedy

"The first movie that I ever said was my favorite movie and I’ve said for the longest is The Producers, Mel Brooks’ original Producers. The two lead performances from Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder are both unstoppable performances and then supported by amazing supporting characters throughout. I love the premise of the movie, I love the pacing of that — the opening scene in the office which also serves as the credit sequence is so funny and just such an amazing one — when Gene Wilder walks in and discovers Zero Mostel with one of his little old ladies who wants to do role-play with him, then getting caught by Zero Mostel snooping, then being brought in and negotiating through his various tax schemes… To me, it’s a great premise for a story and it’s so funny."

A.O. Scott recommended Spy (2015) in Movies (curated)

Spy (2015)
Spy (2015)
2015 | Action, Comedy

"Number one is a movie that I think I underestimated a little bit when it came out. It is “Spy,” with Melissa McCarthy. A just amazing comedy. And The Academy is notoriously blind to comedies; comedy is very rarely in contention for the Best Picture. And, you know there’s the old saying, “Comedy is hard.” What Melissa McCarthy does, in going from a mousy desk jockey at the C.I.A. — with literal mice in her office — into an international woman of mystery and intrigue and an action heroine, is so incredible. It’s like Peter Sellers, like Inspector Clouseau. You know, it’s at that level of inventiveness, physical and verbal. bsolutely the Best Actress. Like, there’s no question that she was robbed for Best Actress. And yeah, Best Picture too. Why not? Get rid of “The Martian,” you know? Give it to “Spy.”"

Its been a while since I've reviewed anything - combination of split Working from Home / Working in the Office, homeschooling kids, and general malaise has made playing games too much like hard work at the moment - which is rubbish.

However, I got a few new games over Christmas (Monster Mansion, a version of Mysterium, and a couple of others) which are review-worthy, and I've ordered Star Saga which *SHOULD* arrive on Saturday. Hopefully, at some point over the weekend, I can get a couple of reviews done.

Longer term, I also have a few Kickstarters which are expected in the next 2-6 months, from Pugs in Mugs (mostly for my daughter!) to Lawyer Up, to Merchants Cove, and a few others too! Should be interesting, and hopefully I can introduce a few brand new games to everyone.
