Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated The Cop Was White as Snow in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A PI investigates the supposed suicide of her cop father. Unfortunately, the characters are flat and the plot is way too slow.

Movie Critics (823 KP) rated Mother! (2017) in Movies
Sep 11, 2017
It wouldn’t be wrong to say Mother! is like experiencing Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Noah and Black Swan as one movie. With infusions of Ben Wheatley’s High Rise and Alfonso Cauron’s Children of Men.
Critic- Rob Daniel

Alicia S (193 KP) rated The Doomsday Girl (Dan Reno, #6) in Books
Sep 28, 2018
Very quickly becoming one of my favorite mystery/PI series.
I was a bit late coming to the Dan Reno series by Dave Stanton and I'll surely be catching up quickly! As a lover of both crime stories and TV shows, I'm left feeling like every book is like THE best episode of your favorite crime show. Never a dull moment, Dan's laid-back attitude has me laughing every time and I can't help but both laugh and shake my head at Cody constantly. Quick-paced, yet easy to follow, I couldn't put this one down and finished it in a day. Very quickly becoming one of my favorite mystery/PI series.
Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Cast Away (2000) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
Truly meme worthy, Cast Away features one of Tom Hanks’ best performances in front of the camera. The only reason it didn’t make the list is because Life of Pi features similar films, and I think that is the better film.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated The Dead Letter (Diagnosis Murder, #6) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Dr. Sloan finds himself looking into the death of a shady PI. The characters are still strong and the plot is wonderfully twisty. Fan of the show or not, you'll like this book.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated Murder Can Kill Your Social Life (Desiree Shapiro, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Desiree Shapiro, a PI, is asked to clear the grocery boy accused of a murder in her nieces apartment. I liked the character, but the plot was very slow and predictable.

Sandra Vanderstelt (16 KP) rated The First Rule of Ten (A Tenzing Norbu Mystery, #1) in Books
May 10, 2018
Ten is an original character as in he is an ex-monk, ex-cop turned PI. This concept is what caught my attention when the post from our local bookstore came across my FB feed.
I was not disappointed when I finished book one immediately purchased books two and three.
I hope you enjoy Ten as much I do.

Marylegs (44 KP) rated Life of Pi in Books
Aug 14, 2019
So Life of Pi, a story of Indian boy castaway in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger for 277 days. This is a story of human endurance and spiritual belief. The story is beautifully written and being a non-religious person I enjoyed that fact that this young boy embraces all religions he comes across and values them all equally and sees the best in each. I was slightly worried the religious aspects would be off putting for me but I believe they added depth and beauty to this story.
Unfortunately I came to read this book after having seen the film so I found it hard not to picture what I had already seen. Also, it meant I already knew how the story ended. I wish I had read the book before seeing the film as I think the story would have been better leaving the ending unknown. It was hard to get caught up with the revelations when they are revealed before you begin. I kept applying what I knew of the story’s ending to the book as I read.
I enjoyed that the story was written as if Pi himself were telling it to me, other than a couple of brief chapters were the journalist is making observations about Pi and his home. It isn’t hard to feel for Pi and knowing he survives to tell his story allows you to fully immerse in his pain and suffering. I would recommend this book, if you haven’t seen the film yet please read the book first so as not to ruin the story and how it unfolds.
