Fluffy period melodrama, not my cup of tea
Graham Swift is an eloquent writer as his descriptions are vivid however the story itself is rather flaky. It's pretty much about an old woman looking back at her life to a particular point where she had an affair with her master while she was a maid. There are far too many descriptions about bodily fluids which only a man would deem to care about. While the sentiment is there, there wasn't enough substance or point to the novel.

He Holds my Hand is a 365-day devotional written by Carol Kent during a period in her life when her world was turned upside down. After learning her only son was arrested for murder, she turned to God and her Bible to find comfort. The result of all her praying and meditating is found in this wonderful devotional.
The devotional is splendidly written; under each day it begins with a quote followed byCarol's writings and then you find scripture to follow up the writings.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Captain America: The First Avenger where I was finally sold on the concept of the Avengers in the MCU (I am not a RDJ/Tony fan). I love period films, so I was all for it. The characterization of Steve Rogers was spot on. Hugo Weaving was good as Red Skull, and I'm sad that the character won't be brought back ever. Hayley Atwell as Peggy is one of my favorite characters out of the whole MCU, and her intro in this movie was great.

A simple period drama that works
Street brawler Charles Bronson teams up with hustler James Coburn in this very good drama. Depression era New Orleans is the setting for this interesting drama following two men's unlikely partnership. They have opposed personalities, but makes things work for the purposes of their business relationship. When Coburn gets in some trouble, it is unknown whether Bronson will end up helping him out.

Strong acting throughout kept me very well entertained by this one.

It is a retelling of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves in Marjana's POV. and stays mostly with the original source material. This is a good kid's book for ages 9 and up. It does talk about slavery as both Marjana and her brother are slaves of Ali Baba's brother, and the Islam religion so it is slightly correct in its set/historic time period. It doesn't get in your face religious just lets you know it's there and helps set the cultural tone.
