Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2377 KP) rated Quickstep to Murder (A Ballroom Dance Mystery #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Stacy is stuck with her ex-fiancee as a business partner because she can't afford to buy him out of their ballroom dance studio. However, when the police find his dead body in one of the rooms, they think Stacy killed him. Can she prove herself innocent?
I really liked the characters from the start, and the plot kept me engaged from beginning to the end. My only real complaint was that Stacy seemed to have a day with many more than 24 hours in it to do all she did plus solve the murder.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2377 KP) rated Mr. Monk Is Open For Business (Mr. Monk, #18) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Before Natalie and Monk can have an official grand opening for their new PI business, they wind up with two cases. First, there's the murder suspect who won't explain why he was moving a body in a vacant field. Then there's the mass shooter who vanished despite being surrounded by police.
Both of these mysteries are great and kept me engaged the entire way through. The characters and their growth are wonder as well, and the humor had me grinning when I wasn't outright laughing. Fans of the series will love it.

Jcadden76 (64 KP) rated Waze - GPS, Maps, Traffic Alerts & Live Navigation in Apps
Jun 19, 2018
Cloud source your travels
Waze is such a cool idea. I love the fact that someone realized that crowd-sourcing your travels was a perfect solution. I am going to stay away from the fact that you can tag police officers (I do it and I love the fact that you can), I really appreciate that you can see traffic conditions as they happen and as they roll in. It is so reliable and you can remove road conditions that someone else left.
My wife and I treat it as a game on the road. She is in charge of tagging things as we pass them, while I drive. Passes the time.

I have always enjoyed Peter S. Beagle's short fiction books and these definitely are worth it. Even his attempt at the steampunk genre is pretty good. Some of these stories are a little on the dark side and slightly horror, however, you also get some action and adventure. It is a great way to visit some of his established worlds like The Last Unicorn and Inn Keeper's Song as well as find something new. Worlds that treat dragon's like guard dogs for drugs and the police that find them or a world that has humans communicating with aliens via a computer. It is a great travel from High Fantasy to futuristic Sci-Fi.

David McK (3576 KP) rated Zootopia (2016) in Movies
Dec 31, 2019
Known as Zootropolis in the UK, this Disney animation is set in a world where talking animals have evolved and live in peace and harmony, with the city of Zootroplis the New York (or London) of that world.
While they may have evolved, most animals still fall into several roles: the police (or security) forces, for instance, are nearly entirely composed of predators, with this film following the ZPD's first Bunny recruit as she attempts to solve a mystery around a missing person (animal) case, and ends up teaming up with a street smart, wise talking fox.
With an underlying theme of racism, the message, in short, is that anyone can be anything they want to be!

James Koppert (2698 KP) rated Banshee - Season 1 in TV
Nov 5, 2019
The best thing you never watched
Banshee was cancelled because no one watched it. Why did no one watch it? I can't say, those that did watch it raved about it. Maybe it was ahead of its time, pre Netflix shows required well known faces, while Banshee recruited actors who were unknown but fit the character.
It was sexy, violent, dangerous and cool. Criminals who are heroes, a bank robber who replaces the ID of a cop who was murdered so becomes the towns police while at the same time trying to hide from his criminal past which wants to kill him. Brilliant stuff. Go watch it now.
