David McK (3485 KP) rated Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017) in Movies

By far the most divisive of the Star Wars movies, this is one of those films that I tend to enjoy while watching, but later come away with a whole host of problems. Such as:
How can Rey be so powerful with no training?
What, Princess (or General) Leia doing Peter Pan in space (may not have been so bad if there had been any indication she knew/was trained in how to use the Force)
The world slowest Lightspeed chase
What is the point of the Canto Bight excursion?
and, not forgetting,
#NotmyLuke

For a memoir, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. While I’m not a huge fan of memoirs, and a particular fan of Carrie Fisher, I am a fan of Star Wars and strong female role models.
I’d never read any of Fisher’s work before this and was delighted with her sense of humor.
She really does just focus on her life leading up to landing the role of Princess Leia and on the time during and just after filming. She does touch a bit on how the role has continued to impact her life experiences towards the end.

Kyera (8 KP) rated Razor's Edge (Star Wars: Empire and Rebellion, #1) in Books
Feb 1, 2018
Razor's Edge is one of the books in a trilogy about our favourite characters. It focuses on Princess Leia Organa. This book takes place after the battle of Yavin, but before the next movie in the series. Leia is on a resistance mission with Han when they're attacked and must flee. There are only little cameos from Luke R2, Chewie and C3PO. I do wish we had seen more from Luke, because the books with Jedis (from my experience reading Star Wars books thus far) are more interesting. I understand why they wouldn't feature him, as the book is about Leia but Han was heavily included.
It was nice to get small glimpses into Lesia's character and it made her more human. She's tough and willing to do what needs to be dome. Most people underestimate her because she's a princess, much to their realized dismay.
The author assumes you are well-versed in the Star Wars universe. A casual fan will have no trouble following the story, but may not be able to imagine everything. Non-human beings are named but not always vividly described. Sometimes systems or locales are mentoned without further detail. For the benefit of a more casual reader and world building, it would have been nice if more details were provided.
Overall the story was enjoyable and a fitting addition to the universe, even if it isn't canon anymore. Recommended to any Star Wars fans as well as those that enjoy science fiction or adventure. Suggested that you rewatch the originals, at least 4 and 5 before reading this book.

Has the feel of original series (2 more)
BB8
Hans Solo and Princess/ Genral Leia are back
Star wars for a new generation
The force awaken opens up star wars for a whole new generation whilst the original trilogy had the world enraputed with this epic adventure series and revolutionized the way we see Sci Fi, Fantasy today Phathom menace, attack of the clones and revenge of the sith, didnt quiet capture the sprirt of the original trilogy. However Force awakens come out swinging.
Not only do we see our old favorites of Han solo Cewbacca Princess now General Leia the new characters leave a force of there own you cant help but admire Rey strength and determination. Fall in love with little BB-8. Finn ability to feel even though hes a storm trooper bring up a whole new level of meaning to established characters from the series.
Ive always like the dark side more than the light as my friendtell me i only ever like assholes so obviously Darth Vader is my favorite star wars character however Kylo Ren is no Darth Vader. However much he may wish to be and although the ending cements his darkness between Vader and Kylo there no choice who i think is the better villian so this film get a 9/10 rather than 10/10

Many people have been split over this movie. I am a fan of the original trilogy and I loved this one did I not understand why like was the way he was at first yes but I found I can understand why he is the way he was. It was sad to see carrie Fisher for the last time as princess Leia not sure how they are going to do the next movie without her. I have to say I wasn't sure about the porgs but going myself wanting everything that they made. The movie has a few issues but as a whole I really enjoyed it!

David McK (3485 KP) rated Showdown on the Smuggler's Moon (Star Wars #2) in Books
Jan 28, 2019
Collecting issues 7-12 of Marvel's new run of Star Wars tales, like issues 1-6 this is set between the events of the original (later subtitled A New Hope) and The Empire Strikes Back, and again follows the exploits of Luke and Artoo (with a brief interlude back to Ben Kenobi's days hiding out on Tattoine) alongside those of Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia (plus another newly-introduced character with connections to Han's past).
Of the two main series that I have read - these, and Darth Vader - I have to say, I found these to be the more enjoyable, the more action-packed, the more to give me the 'feel' of a Star Wars film.
