Gloria (27 KP) rated Prison Break - Season 2 in TV
Jul 18, 2017
A Continuation of Greatness
Ditches the prison setting and places our characters on the run. The scope of the plot has been wildly increased. New characters round out the cast each with their own motivations. We get a very grand game of cat and mouse.
The show continues to keep you on the edge of your seat. Shocking character deaths and big moments that change the pace for the rest of the season pop up regularly. The big risks it takes, make for a more tense and enjoyable season.
While the tense, tight, and dangerous corridors of the prison are missed, the writers show that they can keep viewers interested and fearing for their favorite characters even with a bigger playground. This immediately creates more interest and intrigue.
It's an expansion and improvement on what was an already excellent show.
The concepts and characterizations are greater than ever, and the complex nature of a prison escape comes flowing with liquid tension, and at all times it grips you with a curious state of empathy.

Leah Lopez (7 KP) rated Prison Time in Books

Shaun Attwood: I wasn't expecting to appreciate a former inmate who used to abuse drugs and the freedom of women to his advantage. I never read the first two books, I didn't realise it was part of a trilogy. However, I do not think I missed anything to substantial that would make me confused in certain parts.
I loved his honesty and I loved that with the help of friendly inmates-as friendly as murderers can get on the inside-and Dr Owen he saw how his destructive life had brought him to prison. However, prison changed him, for the better. He became more mature and with the help of CBT realised he didn't need drugs to feel euphoric. Like me I too have an addictive personality just not with drugs nor alcohol. I am a Writer and I own two blogs. This keeps me going. Just like it kept Shaun going in prison.
Overall, I learnt not to mess with drugs, or watch women kiss one another-well-not an in addictive way :P
and get caught.
I will use my addictive personality into writing to the best of my abilities.

Darren Fisher (2454 KP) rated The Stanford Prison Experiment (2015) in Movies

Interesting adaptation of the notorious experiment
Along with the Milgram Experiment (1961) the Stanford Prison Experiment (1971) has been widely discussed. Both attempted to investigate the psychological effects of perceived power and its effect on the human psyche. The SPE focused on the struggle between prisoners and prison officers. The randomly chosen participants were university students who agreed to take part in the two week experiment (in a prison recreated under the university itself). Of course things take a turn for the worst when the guards revel in their power and push the prisoners beyond their limits in the name of scientific research. The experiment lasted only six days before psychology professor Philip Zimbardo pulled the plug on the whole sorry mess.
The film is mostly faithful ,offering a lean, straight to the point account of the events. No boring or irrelevant subplots going on. The actors are convincing and appear to relish their roles (maybe a sense of irony on the directors behalf..?). A good solid adaptation. Recommended.
Note: Footage from both the actual Milgram and SPE Experiments are available over the internet to watch (including youtube)

Absolutely love this show. It's currently on its 7th season and has been renewed for a further 2 seasons. It is certainly worth watching as it's incredibly addictive but do remember it is set in a prison, so violence and death are very prominent throughout.

Neon's Nerd Nexus (360 KP) rated A Prayer Before Dawn (2018) in Movies
May 13, 2019
There will be blood
#aprayerbeforedawn is a relentless, hard hitting, dizzying trip into the world of addiction while incarcerated in a #notorious foreign prison. #prayerbeforedawn is the true story of #english #boxer #billymoore who is sent prison in #thailand?? & the film uses real #prisoners as cast. More like an experience than a film prayer is exhausting, relentless & at times a tuff watch. Everything intimidates here & with most of the dialog spoken not being in english or having subtitles we are made to feel as alone, frightened & intimidated as Billy. #violence is kept mostly off screen but to good effect giving it a more raw, savage & disturbing feel leaving the worst to your imagination. Sound design is incredible too be it the dread filled #soundtrack or the seemingly ramped up unnerving volume of #prison life around Billy everything seems to make you #anxious & under threat. Billy is #strong physically but his mind is #damaged/tortured & its almost as if #fighting & #drugs are his only escapism. Its depressing seeing him go from seemingly untouchable to a weak/#scared kid & with physical danger everywhere his mind starts to become more & more unstable. #joecole gives such a mesmerising performance here, you feel his #pain, #fear, paranoia & torture & admire what little #fight he has left in him. Infact whats going on in the prison could essentially be a metaphore for the stuggles going on in his head. Visually depressing but stunningly #gorgeous its almost like the director took inspiration from #nicholaswindingrefn #onlygodforgives & even uses some of its talented cast too. I really cant recommend this film enough it truly is a remarkable film & such an incredible, sad & powerful #truestory. #odeon #odeonlimitless #thursdaythoughts #fighter #boxing
