Junior Doctor... Scrubs or Grey's Anatomy brought to life?
Max Pemberton's Trust Me, I'm a (Junior) Doctor is a very frank and humorous account (very tongue in cheek) of his time as a Junior Doctor. Reading this was very much like immersing yourself in a real life version of a Grey's Anatomy, Scrubs or Night Shift style TV show.
I found this to be a very easy read, demolishing the pages in a day (ok, I was sat round a pool with beer on tap, but still...) It was a well written and thought provoking account with recurring appearances of his housemates and colleagues. It humanises the role of a doctor and the struggles of long shifts balanced with maintaining a social life, family responsibility and just trying to exist.
Pemberton details how the NHS operates, and the trials and frustrations of a Junior doctor launched into frustrating, physically, mentally and emotionally draining role in medicine.
Reading this gave me a new found admiration for those on the front line working round the clock, whilst combating the very real frustrations of red tape, senior doctors and mental health.
I would recommend to any reader who enjoys this genre!

Well my streak continues...that would be the streak where I enjoy a book much more than I do the movie adaption. I don't usually see a movie & then read the book, but in this case I did just that. I saw this movie ages ago & enjoyed it, but damn the real story has so much more color & life to it than the movie. It really makes you think about life, love, & forgiveness. What an amazing story on the power of love & how your perspective on things changes throughout your life. Your experiences shape the way you see things & you just may be surprised & how drastically those experiences can shift your whole view of a situation.
I adore this book! It is very easy to get lost in.

This movie is unsettling as it is based on a true story, told in the book of the same name by Suzannah Cahalan.
A healthy young woman in her early 20's suddenly and inexplicably withdraws from life. As her personality is destroyed as is much of her life. The illness begins with sensory sensitivity and confusion and ends in catatonia.
When watching it I found myself trying to figure out what exactly what could make someone act like this. Epilepsy, stress, schizophrenia, mental breakdown. The diagnosis was none of these and it reminds the viewer that the brain is a complex and vulnerable entity that could fail in numerous ways.
