Christopher Robin (2018)
Christopher Robin (2018)
2018 | Adventure, Animation, Comedy
Great coming-of-age story of leaving behind childish things (a la Toy Story 3), weighed up with the perils of growing up (responsibilities and prioritising work over family). Christopher Robin leaves the Hundred Acre Wood to grow up and somehow loses his way as the stresses of adult life take hold.
I really hated the trailer for this film, thinking it looked like they'd taken the plot of The Smurfs or Paddington and just swapped in the different characters. It really didn't do it justice as this is not your average CGI creatures madcap adventures in the real world film. There are real poignant moments in the Hundred Acre Wood before any of the toys have really made it to the real world. Also I did not like the look of Pooh, he seemed just wrong on so many levels. But as with any 2D character, nothing 3D will quite look right and you soon become to like him and appreciate his facial expressions.
Ewan McGregor is OK as Christopher Robin (though interesting that he somehow lost his North English accent as he grew up), though is somehow neither truly believable as the curmudgeon nor as the eventual (spoiler alert) happy, funloving Dad.
The cast of the Hundred Acre wood seem quite familiar to me, as Jim Cummings continues his reign as Pooh and Tigger, but we (briefly) have Peter Capaldi (doing an impression of Gary Oldman) as Rabbit and Toby Jones as Owl.
Enjoyable cameo appearances from Mackenzie Crook and Matt Berry in one scene.
Some real poignant moments at the start of the film, but this wasn't reflected in the finale as that was not as emotive as it could have been.
Not really a film for under-10s, more for the older children, who ironically may think it is more babyish than it really is (my eldest is 10 and was refusing to go and see it but I think she enjoyed it more than her younger siblings).

The character of The Easter Bunny is hilarious!
What if the Easter Bunny was real?
Santa Claus (known as North), The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy and The Sandman are The Guardians, they keep the children of the world safe. When Pitch Black threatens to return, bringing noting but misery, fear and nightmares with him, the team are sent a new recruit, the mischievous Jack Frost (who has a long running feud with The Easter Bunny). Can the others trust him and will the five of them be able to work together to banish Pitch Black back to the shadows?

Follows book. Some good jump scares (0 more)
Not very scary. (0 more)
Boring and cliche
Pet Semetary has great source material but I think in today's world of the walking dead, zombie _____, etc, this is not a scary movie. No real ambience is established and we only care about the characters because they are an "average family". Ultimately bad things happen and I didnt even care. No emotional attachment built at all. Could have been so much better if more time spent on them as a family and more on their dreams/issues. The stuff with wifes sister was great but father was 1 dimensional

Percy Jackson's world seems to be a target for weird creatures. Then he discovers why. The old Greek gods are real, and one of them is his father. At times, it does feel like a Harry Potter rip off, but there are some pretty fresh twists as well. I completely enjoyed it. And I discovered I've had one of his mysteries on my shelf for a while now. It's moved up my to be read list.

Sarah and Aidan Cooper find a note hidden in a desk that leads them on a wild adventure. Could it be that the Peter and the Starcatchers books were real?

The book starts off a little slowly, but once it gets going, it's a wild ride. It takes the world they've created in the previous books and brings it to modern day America, so be sure to read the others first, but if you liked them, you'll like this one, too.

A place to escape
Instagram is a good place to escape for a bit with nice pictures and videos of travel and fun things to do all over the world, or just a nice place to keep up with your friends or favorite celebrities. It's got a little bit for everyone and is pretty user friendly. You can add your own pictures or 60 second videos to your timeline or you can even add to a story in real-time. If you want to interact on the spot there is also a live feature. It's a great app for everyone.

Amazing from the Start
From the very first episode starring a chimpanzee named David, this show has been another BBC and Attenborough gem. The entire story is shot beautifully by an experienced camera crew who spends years with the animals. Each episode focuses on a different family group in a different part of the world, giving viewers a glimpse into the group's inner-workings. No hardship or heartbreak is omitted, creating an emotional journey each episode. Each episode ends with a look into the real issues surrounding the conservation of the star species.
