Detail in the animation (1 more)
Ties in to the Resident Evil games time line
Excellent animation
A very good CGI animated film with a great level of detail, really makes it realistic as possible. They even used motion capture for the characters in the film for greater realism. At last a Resident Evil film that does tie in with the games! Bringing Claire Redfield and Leon S.Kennedy back together for more Zombie mayhem. Set 7 years after the Resident Evil 2 game where Racoon City was nuked and in the time line of the games after Resi Evil 4 and before 5. The story plot is simple but this is really like watching a playback of playing the game. If your a Resident Evil fan you will love this. The DVD also has tons of extras, making of, Leon interview, Resident Evil 5 footage plenty to entertain you.

Sarah (7799 KP) rated Hacksaw Ridge (2016) in Movies

Good but too Hollywood-ised
This is yet another true life story I've never heard about until watching the film, but its a fascinating and harrowing story.
Andrew Garfield gives a great performance as Desmond, and his story is truly an intriguing one. The second half of the film during the actual war was very well done, it seemed very realistic and graphic without being too ott gory. And the documentary footage at the end of the real Desmond Does nearly had me in tears.
The main problem is this film has been Hollywood-ised, with over the top and out of place acting from some actors (my other half pointed this out early on and it was something I couldn't then unsee!) to irritating slow motion and patchy CGI. If they could just tell the real story without embellishing, it'd be so much better.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated When Lightning Strikes in Books

When Lightning Strikes is not your average time-traveling romance. It introduces you to two very interesting and unique characters. Alaina Costanza (Lainie), an edgy, wise-cracking romance writer with a rough past, and John Killian, or just Killian as he is mainly known, the villian from the historical western she is in the midst of writing. So when she gets struck by lightning, she gets way more than she bargained for!
This book made me laugh, and at the same time it pulled at my heart. The chemistry between the two leads and their fighting that attraction was realistic and heartwrenching. Even though this is a romance, I was unsure of how it was going to end, it was a real nail-biter! I couldn't finish soon enough, and when I did, it left me feeling fulfilled. I couldn't recommend this book more!

ArecRain (8 KP) rated Bad Romance in Books
Jan 18, 2018
Well rounded and in-depth, Bad Romance feels like a true novel and not just an excuse to write a stepbrother romance. That is a trope that can go wrong very quickly but that author managed to juggle it well along with the rest of the novels drama.
It is easy to get caught up in the passion and emotions of Bad Romance. I found myself burning with rage at the useless parents, especially since they felt realistic. At first, the lead couples personalities annoyed me, but it was rewarding to watch their story unfold.
If you are looking for a romance filled with passion, both in and out of the bedroom, Bad Romance is definitely for you. If the stepbrother trope puts you off, dont be. Their parents were barely married before he left so there was no creepy of gross factor attached.

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Let the Dead Speak (Maeve Kerrigan, #7) in Books
Feb 19, 2018
This is the 7th novel in the Maeve Kerrigan series, but only the second one I have read. I have to say that I am really enjoying this series. The characters are very well rounded and realistic, and the procedural aspect of the mystery is detailed enough to make me feel as though I’m right there in the thick of things.
When 18 year old Chloe Emery leaves her father’s house earlier than planned to return home to her mother’s house, she’s greeted with what appears to be the scene of a homicide, but no body. As Maeve and her team dig into the matter, they find more and more suspects, and more people guilty of something, whether to not it be murder, than they know what to do with. The story is suspenseful, deliberately paced, and full of twists. Let the Dead Speak is a must-read for mystery lovers.

Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated Fifty Shades Freed in Books
Jul 10, 2018
This was another good book. I thought that the author makes the characters likeable. With that said, the writing was not amazing. It didn't flow very well. I thought that the author would choose a couple words and stick with them and never change them. If I read another "Oh my" I may scream.
I did find this an entertaining series and I'm glad that I read them. With that said, these are guilty pleasure books, those books that you may not want to openly discuss with some people. I'm not ashamed of what I read but I was glad that I read these books on my nook.
All in all, the story was good but it read like a fantasy of a young adult/teen and not as realistic as I would have hoped. The books were entertaining but they left me wanting "more"...

Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated The Perks of Being a Wallflower in Books
Jul 12, 2018
This year I have challenged myself into reading novels that are not the typical novel that I would have picked up. This was one of those novels that I just never really thought I needed to read. The characters are very developed and the main character was very realistic to me. I found myself enthralled by the characters and how it is true to high school friendships.
This book deals with some mature topics and can be a trigger for anyone who has been sexually abused. I thought that this book dealt nicely with the character's faults and his significant life problems. This was nothing like I expected. By the end of the novel I felt kind of numb and on the verge of tears.
I think this is a very powerful novel. I am glad that I gave this book a chance. I would definitely recommend this book.

There were things about this movie that I loved and things that I wasn't too fond of.
I love Jason Stratham. He is great in anything and I think he was perfect for this movie.
I thought the little girl's character was really needless. She was basically put there to push the romantic part of the story forward and it seemed pointless.
I also am not a fan of movies that through in false endings. There is a point where they make it seems like the movie is over and then of course its not. I would rather have constant action than feeling like the movie is over and then getting pulled back into the action again.
The shark looked incredibly realistic. The action was good and the movie kept my attention throughout the entire storyline. I would watch this movie again and would recommend it to others.
