Book 3 (of 4) in the Rigante series, moving the events on some centuries after those of "Sword in the Storm" and "Midnight Falcon".

I think it's generally accepted that the Rigante are Gemmell's equivalent of the Scots, and that this book and its subsequent sequel are his interpretation of the wars fought by the Scottish Highlanders against the invading English (whereas the earlier two books were more like their wars against Rome).

As in most of his works, the novel deals with the notions of redemption and the nature of both good and evil, and has a strong central protagonist plagued by doubt. Worth reading? Assuredly yes (though I'd say that about nearly all his novels)

First off i just wanna say...THOSE CAPTAIN AMERICA SLIPPERS!! Oh my goodness this book was just amazing, i completely read it in one sitting and just could not put it down. The flow of the book was phenomenal and the character development from the first book to this was just fantastic. The only reason it was given a 4 of 5 Stars (if it was an option it would have been a 4.75) was because of the ending. The momentum built up throughout the book only to end as it did was slightly disappointing..BUT I need to know how it ends and what will happen between Caden and Gabriel. Cant wait for the 3rd and final installment "Rebecca's Redemption".

An ex-cop seeking redemption

When an ex-cop who is thrown of the force for being drunk on duty when his partner is killed in a shootout, he seeks a way to redeem himself. Finding a woman who has been badly battered and beaten and left for dead he attempts to save her and takes her to the hospital. After she dies he takes it upon himself to find the killer. His journey takes him to seedier parts of his own town and he meets and deals with characters that hide dark secrets. In the end he must decide on his ambition or his family. What follows is a nice pacy thriller with a few twists and turns.
