Helm is the anthropomorphised wind in the North of England, in a valley that feels like it should be in the Peak District (perhaps?). For millennia, it blows around, doing its own thing, and then humanity comes on the scene.
A prehistoric clan worship Helm, hoping for leniency from it’s devastating, troublesome, unpredictable nature. Another character, a wizard-type priest, tries to banish Helm. A Victorian Engineer wants to capture him. My favourite characters were the girl who could converse with Helm and is then regarded as insane (as well as promiscuous by her mother), and the Climate Scientist who wants to save the wind. All of these characters have only one connection: Helm.
Don’t expect some nice, tied up with a bow, perfect ending. That’s not this book. I loved how it showed humanity’s relationship with nature and the weather in such a creative way.
I was transfixed throughout.

Cambry and Angell are both omegas at Zilly's. They are in a secret relationship as omegas aren't allowed to love each other due to the possibility of becoming pregnant with a sylph. Niro is an Alpha who can control his Burn, making him the ideal Alpha for first-time omegas, which is why he is partnered with Cambry.
This is a fast-paced story with low angst and plenty of emotions. I loved how it was Angell who had no doubts, and it made perfect sense that it was Cambry who did, especially with how Niro shut the bond down between them during their first time together. Angell really is the sneaky one, and that was perfect.
A great read that I enjoyed and definitely recommend.

Nature, the sea and the landscape of New South Wales all play a major role in this book, and the descriptions were so evocative. As someone who has never been to Australia, I was able to imagine the setting of this story.
The relationship between the sisters is a strange one: the older sister, Jess, seems very disconnected from her younger sister, doesn’t stay in touch, and when Lucy arrives unannounced at her house, Jess isn’t there. The house is in a state, and no-one knows where she is.
I really enjoyed the 1800 timeline: the oppression of the Transportation ship, the sisters, and their ending was *chef’s kiss* (I’m not saying 🤐).
A book of male violence and manipulation, and an interesting way to deal with it! I enjoyed this, but I do think it could be a marmite book (I like marmite).
