David McK (3713 KP) rated 3:10 to Yuma (2007) in Movies

2007 remake of a 1950s original (which I haven't seen), and - I'm sorry to say - , this just didn't do it for me.
Despite starring two stellar actors in Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, I found this to be slow, plodding and just, well, boring; never really taking off or holding my attention at all.
You want to see a good film/Western (in all but name) by James Mangold? Stick with the infinitely-superior 'Logan'.

David McK (3713 KP) rated Pink Panther 2 (2009) in Movies

2009 sequel to the 2006 Pink Panther film, which itself was a loose remake/reimagining of the original Pink Panther films.
Here, Steve Martin returns as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau, with John Cheese taking over Kevin Kline for the part of his boss Commissioner Dreyfus, and with Jean Reno returning as he's a sidekick Ponton.
More of the same slpastick-style comedy as the first, but fails to reach that (relatively low) bar.

Almost identical to the original (2 more)
Lots of running and shouting in the woods
More shaky camera work
More of the same
Nothing new here at all. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a sequel, although I think it is, but it could be a remake. Almost identical to the original scene for scene for large parts. The only difference is the camera is up to date and they have a drone. Don't waste your time.

Naomi Scott! (2 more)
Normal Guy Ritchie visual flourishes
Some good Disney "in-jokes"
Marwen Kenzari not nearly evil enough as Jafar (2 more)
Others are cast because they look like the animated characters: some would be good in the Disney parade... less convincing on the big screen
Comparison with Robin Williams (RIP)
Pointless remake but adequately done.

So Quill discovers his Father is in gfact this alien being called Ego...quite appropriate. Its all part of a plan to remake the universe in his own image.
While the film has a few good moments (baby Groot, Yandu, Rocket all have stand out scenes) it's ultimately a run of the mill, by the numbers comic book movie. Yes it's pretty, yes it's got a big budget, no I didn't enjoy it.
