"Gus Van Sant is one of my favourite directors of all time, and My Own Private Idaho has this genuine sense of humour. I also think if River Phoenix is really incredible in it."

"I guess a running theme for me in this list is the films that made me want to become an actor. This is one of them. River Phoenix, Keanu Reeves, and Gus Van Sant: sign me up."

Based on the Stephen King novel, The body, which is the backdrop to this great story. (2 more)
Outstanding acting from the then young cast.
Nostalgic story of friendship and the vulnerability of youth.
Coming of age movie, with the late River Phoenix. Stand by Me is a small, quiet film that walks tall and resonates long after.

"It’s hard to pick a favorite Gus Van Sant film, but this one has my favorite River Phoenix performance. It took me a while to warm up to the story while watching it, but by the end I was loving it. I like when movies sneak up on you that way. And hey, it’s in color!"

I love this movie so much no matter how many times I watch it. I grew up watching it and I just love the characters and there friendship and loyalty to each other. It always makes me laugh and smile and remember good times I had with my childhood friends. I will always miss River Phoenix who did an awesome job of playing Chris Chambers.

My personal favourite of the Indiana Jones films, due largely to the comic repartee between Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones and Sean Connery as his father, Henry Jones Senior.

This is the one that starts with a flash-back to Indy's early years (with River Phoenix taking on the role of the young Indiana), showing how he got the scar, his fear of snakes and this hat and bullwhip, before moving on to the late 1930s (1938, I think) with Indiana hired to find his dad, who has gone missing on the trail of a holy relic: the cup of Christ, the legendary Holy Grail itself.

"I know everyone’s expecting me to list off all these action movies, but Stand By Me. There’s something about the relationships and the performances in that movie that I found really inspirational. And this is before I was even considering being an actor. I just found it to be one of the more true, real, honest sort of movies that really had an effect on me. I watched it a week ago and got goose bumps. Especially with the whole River Phoenix thing and how he disappears at the end. How genius is he in the movie? There’s something about a movie like that that can be so effective with no gimmicks."

The Loser's Club
Stand By Me- is one of only three films stephen King himself likes based off of his novels. That is saying a lot because most of his adaptions are bad.

The Plot: After learning that a stranger has been accidentally killed near their rural homes, four Oregon boys decide to go see the body. On the way, Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), Vern Tessio (Jerry O'Connell), Chris Chambers (River Phoenix) and Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) encounter a mean junk man and a marsh full of leeches, as they also learn more about one another and their very different home lives. Just a lark at first, the boys' adventure evolves into a defining event in their lives.

What a perfect cast of people.

Stand By Me- has drama, adventure, kids being kids, bullies and more.

I would highly reccordmend it.
