Great for tv watching
I won this on Smashbomb and I was really excited about it since I had heard some good things about ROKU. However, I was kind of disappointed to find out most of the "apps" or channels available require a tv subscription.

Fantastic!
I won this remote in a smashbomb giveaway and I could not be any more grateful!!! My parents already have one Roku Television & I gave this other remote to them for the second tv that they had in their home and now they can have a wide variety of shows, movies, etc. at their fingertips throughout their own little home! They live in an area where it is hard to get cable, and the installation is incredibly expensive so this works wonders for them! Especially since it can be linked to a Netflix! They are loving life! Sometimes it really is the little things! Thank you again so much! Hooking this up literally took 10-15 minutes! Easy breezy!

Netflix had it's time
I know people are going to disagree with a lot of what I say. I have used Netflix on different devices and different counties.
Where to start.
-it would be nice if it looked and acted the same on all devices. I base this on use on PC, Roku, IPad and Samsungs
-to have the same options in all countries. Some things are dubbed in english in the USA but in Canada the same shows are only subtitled in english.
-not all things that are available in the USA are in other parts of the world, like Canada
-when you go in to a show it would be nice if it did not start right away. I like to read what ot is about before choosing to view it.
-instead of playing a clip from a movie when scrolling over it a trailer would be better.
-to make it easier to delete off of you continue to watch list.

There are a couple of good streaming service i use over Netflix and some of them are free like tubi.

One of America's Best Animated Series
Contains spoilers, click to show
Exo Squad was a show that doesn't get the credit it deserves. This show was one of the best American made animated shows. The only show I put above it is the 90's X-Men. The premise is that humans have terraformed Mars and Venus and now can live on these planets. This show centers around a group of soldiers who pilot fighting machines called E-frames. J.T. Marsh is the leader of the group and they are at odds with Governor Phaeton, leader of the Neosapiens. Neosapiens are genetically engineered humans built to be basically slaves to Homosapiens. They are superior in strength and other things. One day, the Neosapiens decided they had enough and rose up and started a war with the Homosapiens. As I said a very well done series. Season 1 is available on DVD. I think season 2 is coming to the soon. The entire series is being streamed on the Peacock channel on roku. Give it a watch!

Some skipping during shows (0 more)
I finally decided to make the switch from cable to Sling and I'm glad I did. I chose the "blue" plan with DVR and HBO and it is the perfect amount of television for my family for a great price.

I've tried Sling on my android phone, Roku and Fire stick and it runs smoothly on all three devices. I've only experienced some skipping when using it and it's most often during commercials and not during the actual show. I'm not sure why this is, but it doesn't really bother me.

The DVR offers up to 50 hours of recording. I am able to record as many shows as I like at one time even when I have my devices shut off (there are some limitations to what can be recorded I believe, but I haven't run into any of them). Cable only allowed me to record one show at a time and my box had to be running. If I wanted to record more than that It would add another $10-25 to my bill as well as some installation fees, not to mention the amount of electricity the box uses when left running.

Not only that, there are tons of television shows and movies available On Demand!

One unexpected result of switching to Sling has been that we are actually watching television more because there are no longer so many junk channels to sift through to find something to watch. It's also nice to be able to watch cable in every room (thanks to our streaming devices) rather than only the rooms we can afford to put a cable box in. There is a limit to only 3 streams running at a time with my plan, but I doubt that will ever cause any issues for us.

Sling has made television enjoyable for me and my family again.

I was wondering how everyone feels about digital copies of movies, in particular the digital redeem code that you get when buying a Blu-ray. Personally, I find the whole system very frustrating.

Over the years, I've built up a nice little collection of these backup copies online using flixster video. I have the app on my iPhone and iPad, and although I've never really made much use of them, it's nice to know they're there if I ever do want to access them. I also used to have the flixster app on my NowTV streaming stick (a Roku based system, produced in conjunction with Sky TV), enabling me to fire up a movie quickly without having to hunt for the Blu-ray and load that up. Nice, I liked where this was all heading.

But then NowTV disallowed the flixster app from their boxes, presumably in favour of their own Sky store system. And then I bought a few Blu-ray's and tried to redeem the digital code, only to find that flixster wasn't supported, only Google Play. Luckily, I have a Google Play account, so I was able to still use it, but the point is I now have my digital movies in multiple locations.

Recently, my daughter wanted to own Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The Blu-ray wasn't out yet, but it was available to buy and download, and Amazon we're offering it at a reduced price. So, now we also have another location where a purchased movie lives.

All of these companies seem to be so interested in restricting us to using their service, and only their service. To me, that makes life more difficult, when it should be getting easier. Instead, I now find it easier to just pickup a Blu-ray from the shelf, instead of trying to remember where My digital copy is located. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe I'm using the wrong service altogether. Maybe there's a simpler way out there that I don't know about. Or maybe I'm just getting too old for technology these days! I don't know but I'm interested to hear what others think.

Very much agree. If you own the movie, you can do what you want with it, when you want. If you own digital, you are entirely at the whim of the studios which is what they want, but not good for you. What if Disney decides they don't want you to own the digital Beauty and the Beast any more? They can just yank it from you. Now stores like Best Buy are not even carrying DVDs at all their locations. It's a conspiracy!

I like them for the same reason I like ebooks...they are easy to store. We live in a small apt. so my massive library needs to have as small a footprint as possible.
