Utterly charmless and boring
This film may have been more engaging if they'd had the likes of Hugh Grant as the leading man. As it was, Crowe is charmless, unfunny and boring throughout. I really didn't care what happened to him, whether he found love with the hapless damsel who he runs off the road without even knowing or whether he could force himself to leave the chateau after falling back in love with the place. It took me days to watch the film as I was determined to get through it and each day I hoped it would get better. It didn't but eventually I finished it! Hallelujah it was over.

I thought this movie was cute and it makes a refreshing change from all the usual sex and violence that we see nowadays. It did take make me reminisce about old fashioned films with all the dancing and singing however I did fast forward through some scenes that seemed to go on forever! I thought Stone's singing was weak but like Russell Crowe in Les Mis sometimes it makes the characters more personable.

3:10 to Yuma (2007)
3:10 to Yuma (2007)
2007 | Action, Drama, Western
2007 remake of a 1950s original (which I haven't seen), and - I'm sorry to say - , this just didn't do it for me.

Despite starring two stellar actors in Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, I found this to be slow, plodding and just, well, boring; never really taking off or holding my attention at all.

You want to see a good film/Western (in all but name) by James Mangold? Stick with the infinitely-superior 'Logan'.

Unhinged (2020)
Unhinged (2020)
2020 | Thriller
Unhinged is a great example of a decent enough thriller, with the caveat of not thinking about it too much.
Some of the plot elements are a stretch at best, completely illogical at worst, but if you're willing to ignore the fact that Rachel doesn't stop anyone to call the police immediately after being rammed off the road by a very angry Russell Crowe, then perhaps you'll find a tight thriller, with some tense action with a dark underbelly.
Crowe is genuinely quite terrifying, and his character isn't an unrealistic one. Situations such as this could happen (the movie thankfully just about stops short of beating one over the head with its message).
Unhinged is certainly flawed, but it's high octane action, memorable villain, and sudden dashes of brutality make it a compelling watch.

"Then along those same lines, probably in the same conversations where my dad said, “You’re gonna watch Braveheart,” he said, “You’re gonna watch Gladiator.” I think it’s just maybe the crazy world setting. It is so big and far-fetched and out there, but the characters are just so real and intimate, and Russell [Crowe] is just so great in that movie. I think it’s the combination of those two things that was the first thing that stabs me. I remember just the image of the hand in the wheat and how beautiful it is. The whole movie’s really beautiful. Those shots are killer."
