I saw Charlize Theron, that's it, it was sold to me. She is incredible when it comes to action movies. True badass. I really liked the action that this film had to offer, but I found the plot boring. There was no intrigue, everything very predictable. I loved the ending though, and would like to see another part.

Once again, a slow start but it quickly got interesting and we saw a lot of Trent in this one. YAY! I am still very much holding out for a Rachel/Trent romance and it is looking rather likely now, although the return of Ellasbeth has dampened the mood a little.

Excellent cast (2 more)
Really funny
Great music
So much fun!
I took my wife to see this before lockdown, and really enjoyed it! I'm not a huge fan of Dolly Parton, and I hadn't seen the film... But the music was great, and choreography was excellent. We saw it with Louise Redknapp, and I'd highly recommend it!

So, I saw the movie before I read this. After I read through the second chapter, I decided to evaluate it completely separate from the movie.
The nostalgia was high in this, it was a 80s/90s fest. I liked it, because that's my jam, but I can see why some people saw it as forced. The writing wasn't anything to write home about (pun unintended), and I know why Ernie changed some things around for his screenplay of the novel. Some of the scenes would have been really boring to watch.
My one issue with the differences between the book and movie... Seriously, you cast Simon Pegg, then don't use him as much as the book? Lame.
Anyway, I liked the book, and I'm strongly considering reading Armada now.

Saw this when it first came out in the bookshops and thought it looked interesting, and then saw it in the library last week and remembered that it was on my to read list. Sorry but I gave up half way through, yes it is gripping and makes you what to read more than a page at a time, but as the book went on, I started thinking of all the books with the same plot line where someone just disappears suddenly. Is it the neighbour, doctor, lodger, best friend? You know it is going to be one of those and I skipped to the last few pages and found the answer but I am not going to tell you, find out yourself, you may have a different opinion.

Saw wannabe
An average at best thriller, which is a mix of Cube, Saw films where a group of strangers wake up and wondered where they are and what their connection is. This time if they don't figure it out, one of them will be shot every 10 mins.
This films works on some levels but it's not that dramatic, the abductor isn't that menacing or scary and it fails to create the tension and suspense needed for a film like this to work. I have to add it's really low budget and the acting quite poor, Sabrina the teenage witch (Melissa Joan Hart) appears to have grown up quick, but no wonder I've not seen her in much since those days. To cap it all it has an odd ending which didn't fit.
